Issac’s Storm is a non-fiction narrative written about a man named, Issac Monroe Cline, who lived through one of the most catastrophic hurricanes the world has seen. This hurricane took place on Galveston Island, on the Texas coastline on Friday, September 7, 1990. With one hundred and forty five mile per hour winds when making connection with Galveston quite a tremendous impact was made on the surrounding community, a community that was booming with life and considered one of the biggest cities in Texas due to its placement on the Gulf of Mexico. Cline, a meteorologist, speaks of hurricanes as if they are a small force to be reckoned with, but in time, he comes to the conclusion he has misjudged mother nature by a long shot. He was a meteorologist who obtained a medical degree along with a clear-cut conception of storms and the Law of Storms, so he believed. There is a sense of boastfulness to Issac by the way the author portrays him, as if he thinks highly of himself, or too highly even. The loss of life was estimated between 6,300, and 12,000 citizens, which is enough to hurt any community in multiple ways. Economically, not only did the city have to struggle to begin the rebuilding process, they also had to bury multiple bodies some that were homeless and had no family to claim them. Trains were lost, bridges were smashed down from the plowing power of the waves crashing against them, which was a reason for many deaths, the loss of bridges made evacuation nearly impossible of the island. The money flow fell in the city as well due to the death toll, if there is not as much money flowing through the city through spending there is not as much money to fix the city. Buildings had to be rebuilt, businesses recreated, homes rebuilt, it was a terrible time for everyone. All the rebuilding, and money spending to recreate the town had to be driven by someone, and that was the political figures within the town and the State of Texas. During the time of the hurricane, the governor of Texas was Governor Joseph D. Sayers, and he was notified of the tragedy that was the Galveston Hurricane of 1990.
