Isaac Newton was a key figure in the Scientific Revolution because his discoveries changed the world of science and belief systems in many ways. His work made such an impact because he was able to explain why and how his hypotheses were proven, which ushered a new way of thinking. His work was not just simply hypothesized (claimed) like past philosophers: Newton was undoubtedly a brilliant mathematician, a careful experimenter, and an obsessive character who could solve problems, as he once said, ‘by continually thinking unto them.’ Even so, his story is not a tale of a lone genius who achieved what he did because he was a genius. As always it is possible in Newton’s case, no less than in the case of any other ‘genius’, to explain how he came to make the discoveries that he did `(Henry 128). Even though his views of the world did not become pervasive until the 1690s, these discoveries opened the eyes of the world, and were a huge revelation in history. Isaac Newton’s findings led to a greater acceptance of the scientific method, which became a crucial tool for future intellectuals and scientists. Through the use of this method, he placed together a coherent synthesis for a new cosmology and defined the basic concept of mechanics, which described the structure of motion in the universe. The theories of how planets move around the sun, how the moon revolves around the earth, and how tides work were finally revealed. Isaac Newton’s techniques utilized a rational approach and inspired others to learn more about the world around them. His career in science ignited such fervor that it led to a career of political power and influence, making him one of the most famous men in Europe. Newton promoted the expansion of knowledge and inspired wisdom in his fellow man. His discoveries eventually led to the idea that nature could operate on its own without God. Citizens of the world, once guided by faith alone, were now able to understand that earthquakes or plagues were caused by natural cause, rather than by the gods. His work led people to believe that nature could be mastered conceptually and mathematically, which weakened traditional Christianity. The role of God in a mechanical universe became unclear. Observation and experiments used through the scientific method were, as a result of Newton, used all over the world, forging our modern and scientific way of thinking.
