Rich in omega 3 and 6, it is very good for the health as long as the impact of mankind doesn’t impact on its quality. Unfortunatly today we have lost its value and it became one of many consumer products, produced in large quantities and sold for cheap. And if with time it has become more affordable, what about its quality? In order to respond to consumer’s demand, producers have developed large intensive fish farms, with a negative impact on the fish, their ecosystems and the oceans. Since thirty years, there is a huge growth of salmon productions with new producers entering the markets. Following a large number of debates around farmed salmon over the last couple of years, some consumers have completely eliminated it from their plate. It is a radical choice but with regards to the current situation of marine ecosystem, it might be time to react. Should we continue to eat as much salmon? Yes it is a very healthy and tasty fish but today there are other alternative. By choosing local fishes, like river fish farms, we reduce massive import coming from the other side of the world, problems link with freezing etc. Fish farms have also a better control over the pollution. Trout is also for example less fat and more firm than the salmon, and has reach in omega 3 and 6. The other option is to buy from farms with a more sustainable approach and closer to the natural cycle of the animal, respecting it and its environment. Now it is your time to choose!
