There are many character traits and themes in the story that are similar to ones in modern times. The Odyssey is still a relevant epic poem today because of all the character traits that Odysseus and Telemachus have. Neither of them give up, so Odysseus and Telemachus are similar to characters in many stories today. It is interesting in contrast of the Iliad, even though Achilles was much stronger and a better warrior, Odysseus was portrayed as a greater hero due to his wisdom.
