Many great works that have been written before 1900 are Shakespeare’s works. One of these is The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Some say that this work is one of the best tragedies of all time. Also some say that this still can be applied to daily life and is still relevant as much now as it was back then but, there is an argument against that. The argument is that this story is irrelevant. Especially since the creation of electronics and the constant changing of the english language people think this story is completely irrelevant to a person in modern times. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is an irrelevant work for a person in modern times due to the lack of, modern english, modern love concepts, and storyline. One way Romeo and Juliet is an irrelevant work is that it does not have modern english. This can be seen all in the play such as when Juliet says, “O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name! Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and i’ll no longer be a Capulet.” (Shakespeare 1096). As when Romeo says “With love’s light wings did I o’erperch these walls; for stony limits cannot hold out love can do, that dares love attempt. Therefore thy kinsmen are no let to me.” (Shakespeare 1069). This is showing Romeo would do anything to be with Juliet; whereas today some people would barely lift a finger to be with the person they love. Today most people get married at an older age that Romeo and Juliet who were in their teens. Most people that are married today have known their partner for a long time before getting married but, in Romeo and Juliet that is not the case.
