LM3 Freedom of Religion
Americas freedom of religion is being questioned! People have many different religions and opinions, But some opinions are encouraged to stay quiet. Most people choose to stay quiet about It so they do not cause problems with the government or people who are uncomfortable with religion and worship. While many people believe it’s okay to have freedom of religion others feel that worshiping freely is wrong because it is not something they can control. Freedom of religion should be allowed in the united states.People have fought and even died so others can have freedom and yet Americans sit by and choose not to take it. This is the kind of thanks given to the people who worked so hard to give the rights we have today.

People can no longer speak freely about the God we serve or gods. We look at “Is Religious Freedom At The Tipping Point?” and see that in this article by Matthew Franck shows points that Religious Freedom has come under pressure. “We can not give the state power over the conscience of men and women, because we do not ourselves have any right to come between God and our fellow citizens.” Says Matthew Franck himself. However the supreme court has found many ways to change the documents and rules so everyone is happy even if that means pushing the truth every now and then. The Government cares about the shared moral happiness of the people more than the religious morals of Christians. When all the government is on the same page the sooner it may begin to recover a healthy nation of religious freedom and have fewer problems. America need religious freedom and the state feels like by giving that to America it is taking away some of the power they have over America. If this is looked at from a social point of view it can refer all this to a quote from the article “The ACLU And Freedom Of Religion” which states “Children are free to pray in public schools either as individuals or in groups.” Because it protects the freedom of praying in schools and in any public places. Religious freedom is a choice us as americans should have. This article by Jordan Weissmann points out facts from different religions and beliefs. Religious freedom allows everyone to express and act on what they believe in. Around the world however laws are being put in motion about the way people in different countries can worship. Different people and the people of the governments make that choice so Americans don 't have the freedom they should get, and they let them do it, The government takes the rights and do with them what they want so Americans don 't have to deal with the problems that come along with
Citizens of America can choose their religion, they can also choose what they want to say, through freedom of speech. These rights can sometimes be disrespected by others who do not have the same beliefs or opinions. For example, if a company does not want to provide service to someone based on a different belief
Religion has always been a topic that makes people uncomfortable, it has sparked wars, legal cases and arguments. This is a controversial issue that reigns havoc in many countries and because of this American citizens are afforded religious freedom through the US constitution. The goal of the United States government has never been to make our nation irreligious but to uphold the values of religious freedom.
There are not many countries around the earth that not only give the people the right to any religion, but also the right to express themselves however they like. Especially allowing the people to say, write, think, and argue whatever they please, even about the government. Most governments forbid the bashing of the government or heads of government by the people. In several countries it is penalized by death. Again, to have a choice of what we say and write is what makes us American. Some governments put to death to those that actually express an opinion. So this is what it means to be an American. To have the freedom to speak what we 're thinking, to say what 's on our mind. To express our feelings and ideas and opinions without fear of punishment. The worst we could ever fear as an American who speaks their mind, is ridicule from peers. This is what it means to be an American; to have the privilege and right granted to us to speak freely. To be able to have our own opinions and speak our mind is one of the huge keys to opening the door to being an
"Prayer has been banished from schools and the ACLU rampages to remove “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance. Moreover, “Separation of Church and State” is nowhere found in the Constitution or any other founding legislation. Our forefathers would never countenance the restrictions on religion exacted today." -- Bill Flax, Forbes, 2011
Since this country was founded, we have had a set of unalienable rights that our constitution guarantees us to as Americans. One of the most important rights that is mentioned in our constitution is the right to free speech. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the

The pledge of allegiance originally did not include the words, “Under God”, until 1954. This was to combat the horrors of a godless communism. But what does our first amendment rights state? “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech”. By including the words “Under God”, America has recognized one or more religions over others. Doesn’t it violate the key beliefs of our country? Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? All our patriots can talk about is our freedom, but they are willing to manipulate information they give to the public, therefore, controlling the beliefs of the population. Religious toleration is one of the main reasons we created this country. People of all religions came to America escaping persecution, and here we are, trying to violate their freedom of religion.
Freedom is something that is not taken lightly in our country. With so many people in America, and so many different religions and views, there will never be a way to make every single person happy. People have the right to believe what they choose, say what they want to say, and do what they want to do. They have the right to worship and take part in ceremonies they choose. It is not for the government to tell them how to live their life. There may be restrictions on certain things but they do not require you to believe a specific way. America is a privileged nation and a free country and the people have every right to be thankful for all the freedoms we have been given.
...ople of color, women, and others fight for individual rights. If told they could not talk of their beliefs in public, this country would probably face another civil war. But for some reason, those who wish to practice their religion publicly are treated as criminals. In one instance a child who brought her Bible to school to read during free reading time, was sent home and told not to bring the Bible to school again. Silent messages are sent to children when disapproval seems the norm. Future generations accept this infringement on personal rights, and so goes the country and moral responsibility to each other.
It is common knowledge that America was founded by people who were seeking to establish a democratic government, which would allow for religious freedom. Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, John Hancock, Thomas Jefferson and others sought to create a document that would establish laws to protect religious freedom. In America, there would be no state church; citizens were to be free to be Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Jewish, or any other religion. Citizens could also choose to not unite themselves with any denomination. They could even be agnostic or atheist. They could attend church services, preach in the streets, pray, own and distribute sacred writings, and live how they believed God would have them live. This would be a drastic change from the history of forced religion that was happening in most of the world, where one converted or was punished in some way: fined, imprisoned, or even killed. In short, the people of the United States of America could believe what they wished and practice their religion, without the threat of the government violating those rights.
One year ago, the United States Supreme Court made two judgments in favor of marriage equality. This was once considered impossible, however, the United States has had a tremendous change of heart in supporting gay marriage. People even speculate that same-sex marriage will be legal in the whole U.S. within few years. Currently there are 17 states that have legalized same sex marriage, while in 33 states it remains banned. The majority of the states that still ban gay marriage have a very high Christian population. Many Christians believe that being homosexual conflicts the bible and refuse to accept it. In my opinion this illustrates why it is better to separate state from religion. We have also seen the church try to influence government decision in England, the archbishop of Canterbury recently stated "The concept of marriage as a normative place for procreation is lost. The idea of marriage as covenant ...
The First Amendment clearly voices a great American respect toward the freedom of religion. It also prevents the government from "abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Since the early history of our country, the protection of basic freedoms has been of the utmost importance to Americans.
America has been built on freedom throughout the years. Freedom to speak, freedom to choose, freedom to worship, and freedom to do just about anything you want within that of the law. America’s law has been designed to protect and preserve these freedoms. The First Amendment guarantees freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition. It assures citizens that the federal government shall not restrict freedom of worship. It specifically prohibits Congress from establishing an official, government supported church. Under The First Amendment, the federal government cannot require citizens to pay taxes to support a certain church, nor can people be prohibited from worshipping in any way they see fit. However, if a certain religion recommends a practice that is contrary to public morals, such as polygamy, Congress may prohibit such a practice (Weidner, Daniel, 2002). The people of the United States also have the right to assemble peaceably under the First Amendment. The only restriction comes from the word peaceably. Assembly may not be prevented, as long as the proper authorities have reasonable assurance that the meeting will be peaceful (Weidner, Daniel, 2002).
As a nation we need to take a page from the Rogerian style of argument and be less judgmental of, and be willing to except another’s point of view as valid, even if one we do not agree with it. The fore fathers of the Unites States wrote the Bill of Rights with our country’s future in mind. The first amendment in the Unites States’ Bill of Rights is our freedom of religion, speech, press, and to peaceably assemble. By including freedom of speech and religion in the Bill of Rights one can assume that our fore fathers felt that all opinions were valid because they gave us the freedom to express and practice them openly. Therefore our current government officials should follow the path that our fore fathers has laid for us and listen to one another with empathy, without judgment and communicate effectively in order to run our country successfully. The day when our government officials realize that compromise is an effective tool we will all win.
America was founded on the idea of freedom. This, of course, includes religious thought, and Americas are free to believe as they want. Americans have always had the freedom to worship as they please in a peaceful manner. Such a right has never been infringed upon (on the federal level that is) and in this way the American culture is free. To reiterate, humankind has had difficulty predicting the future of religion in America; but it can be seen where the religious population is going into the future and the impact it has in our culture, and the culture to come. Only time will tell the truth behind the future of religion in America.
