As Malaysia moves steadily towards the future, people work harder to improve their life. They migrate from the countryside to cities in search of jobs and create a better future. According to the Oxford Dictionary, countryside means the areas of land used for farming (and not a town or suburb) while city means a large and important town. Max Weber, a well-known sociologist defines countryside as the inhabitants of rural areas while city refers as an ‘anonymity’ or extensive reciprocal personal acquaintance of the inhabitants and the characteristic of the neighbourhood is lacking. The examples of the countryside in Malaysia are Gua Musang, Baling, and Bintulu while Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Kota Kinabalu are the examples of cities. Department of Statistics Malaysia stated that the population of people who live in cities is 63% which is higher than people who live in the countryside with 37% in June 2013. Although the population of people who live in cities is higher than the countryside, I believe that living in the countryside is far better than living in cities for three reasons.
First of all, countryside has a beautiful scenery and peaceful environment. There are a lot of breathtaking sceneries, spaces, and other amazing places. We can enjoy the beauty of nature like mountains, lakes, rivers, forests and waterfalls in the countryside where we can’t get in the city. The natural environment somehow helps to avoid worries and sadness instead of gaining a healthy life. Moreover, as there are no crowded streets and heavy traffic in the countryside, it is less stressful because there isn't any time pressure and the traffic conditions are better. To add, there are no fumes from cars or smoke from factories to pollute the air. The ...

...them to buy groceries because they have their own food, fire wood and a lot of other helpful items in their backyards. People also will get the cheaper price especially on local fruits such durian, rambutan, mangosteen, and many more due to its seasons. Therefore, besides spend less money on buying items, they can enjoy the freshness of products made in countryside.
In conclusion, living in the countryside is better than living in cities due to its many benefits. People who live in countryside may enjoy the natural environment and keep them in a peaceful life. A strong relationship and closer to each other might help them to avoid the increasing of a crime rate on that area. People who live in countryside can also spend less money on their living in terms of the used of fuel, avoided of expensive entertainment, and enjoyed the cheaper price of groceries and food.
Having a hometown developed from agriculture, and a hometown that has shaped into a diverse community, has given me the opportunity to not only observe and learn many different perspectives of farm life, but to learn about other cultures as well. In addition, living in a smaller rural area has also been nice because it gives you the ability to be able to get away from the hustle and bustle of an urban area and just be able to be out in an open and peaceful environment. Yet, if you do want to go to town for something you need or for entertainment, you do not have far to go and does not take long to get there. However, it is always good to be home on the farm to enjoy the open blue sky or a nighttime sky full of stars.
Farmer markets have always been around and a strong reason to believe that they will still be around long after our time. There are several reasons why this age old tradition still exitst today and revolves around a very common question, “What does a buyer find important when they are about to buy food to be consumed, or how the produce is grown/manufactured, processed, marketed, and distributed. Supporting farmer markets and ensuring fair trade among the dealer and the seller can help promote healthier lives while building stronger communities. There are several reasons to support a community’s farmer market event because buying true locally grown food can allows the buyer to have options to food that is picked fresh and tastes better than what is sold in the supermarkets. Another benefit to farmers markets is that the food is sustainable, flavorful, supports local farms, and also in some areas, part of the proceeds goes to the unfortunate within that community. With the addition of the food generally being more flavorful, locally grown food is adapted to the climate in which it was grown, and can remain fresh longer than that of an imported produce grown in a different climate. City life is an entire different way of living than life outside of the city. Living in the heart of a major metropolitan city, I travel over 30 miles to work that some say is located in the middle of the Midwest cornfields. Life in the city moves at a faster pace. I find people often are walking quicker steps, seemingly to always be on a mission to get somewhere, usually in a hurry. Shopping at one of my city’s local big box food store, I find that most people are pleasant enough, but do not go out of their way to speak. They typically appear to be in their own world, in a hurry to purchase their good, so they can get to somewhere else. The store worker’s rarely make eye contact and sometimes tracking an employee down for assistance can be non-existent. On one recent visit, it took the store over 10 minutes to find an employee to assist me with acquiring an object in a locked cabinet.
Living in a remote area has always been thought to have negative influences on the individual. There are 35 % of the total population in Australia living in rural area(Phillips, 2009).Rural areas in Australia and all over the world are not geographically isolated and disadvantaged only but also culturally and economically deprived which has great consequences on the health status of the population. The main two factors that have a major effect on rural health are socioeconomic status and cultural issues(Beard, Tomaska, Earnest, Summerhayes, & Morgan, 2009).
So there are a few reasons why urbanization was necessary in the United States and why a rural nation would not have been better suited for this country. Through the use of education, medicine, trade between goods, the knocking down of social barriers, and worldwide recognition urbanization is more favorable to this country and also the rest of the world who we have protected and fought for. Urbanization is an amazing thing although it has its downfalls it will never outweigh the good it brings to this nation and its people and that is why I believe that urbanization was necessary and that a rural nation although could have brought some good could never outweigh the benefits of an urban nation.
The two major communities that individuals live in are urban and rural. Both types have both positive and negative aspects. The focus of this paper is on rural communities. From my research rural environments are not as popular as urban ones; however, the citizens who live in these communities are very happy with the lifestyle they chose. The word rural is generally associated with communities that lack accessibility to public services such as transit, shopping, and entertainment. This is generally used in communities where farming is a primary occupation. In my study I interviewed three individuals who identify as living in a rural community.
Basic general healthcare is compared in both urban and rural areas in North Carolina. Rural areas are known as countryside, where city has not really taken places. Urban areas are city areas with a lot tons of buildings and easy transportation. Weighing the difference between the two areas is where they stand in healthcare.
In today’s 21st century of technological achievements, society is more in tune with which new cellular devices are able to open the front door of your house with “just the touch of one key”. It is this very co-dependence on technology that has led to the loss of our connection with the foundation of life: the earth and what it produces. With the world’s population at a staggering 6,881,821,283 and growing, reports the 2010 U.S Census Bureau, we as a society today face issues like world starvation, widespread disease and an increase in global warming due to human production. In a society where more than three quarters of the general population lives in urban areas, leaving one mere quarter in rural locations, the result is a loss of association with the rural upbringings of our societies history. Within the article Urban Agriculture And Sustainable Cities, its authors comment: " “Large cities, not villages and towns, are becoming our main habitat.
The second suggestion of setting better criteria for determining which institutions should be included in the study has also been incorporated when setting criteria. It has yet to be determined whether stand alone rural institutions, rural institutions associated with urban centers, or a combination of the two will yield the best results. At this point in time, this student is leaning towards the combination.
2010). The robotic lifestyle that urbanization harbors takes a bigger toll on us than we realize. Along with having a repetitive schedule every day that usually includes a cycle between work, school and sleep with other responsibilities thrown in the mix we can get mentally exhausted. Needing to get away from it all is a big reason why people travel and explore different parts of the world all the time. Taking a “break” from the typical urban lifestyle is not the only reason we feel a sense of relaxation being outdoors. On a biological level, that good feeling that we get from being outside and taking a fresh breath of air stems from the fact that our great ancestors survived off the land and that we still carry that instinct (Ryan et al. 2010). Many people even have wallpapers of natural landscapes that bring them a relaxing feeling when they look at it. Fortunately, some of the most beautiful places in these photos such as Niagara Falls are under heavy environmental protection as they are a huge tourist attraction for a reason. Additionally, most of the food we eat comes from farms and it just proves that urban cities are reliant on rural areas for their food production. With the current issues of erosion, pollution and urbanization of rural areas… how would human happiness would be affected by these changes in the
As agriculture has become more intensive, farmers have become capable of producing higher yields using less labour and less land. Growth of the agriculture has not, however, been an unmixed blessing. It, like every other thing, has its pros and cons. Topsoil depletion, groundwater contamination, the decline of family farms, continued neglect of the living and working conditions for farm labourers, increasing costs of production, and the disintegration of economic and social conditions in rural communities. These are the cons of the new improved agriculture.
Urbanization is the gradual constant increase in the population of people in urban areas or rather cities. Urbanization is mostly associated with the rural-urban migration phenomenon that takes place when people move in large numbers from rural areas into urban areas in order to seek a better life quality (R.Faridi, 2012) (Tellnes P, 2014). As much as that can be said it is the only way that the population increases, people may also move from other their own urban areas to other more urbanized areas if they chose to do so. In its initial phase, urbanization was mostly influenced by people wanting better jobs than those they had on the country side, so people moved to more modernized places as agriculture was now being less common and a more technological world was emerging, so they moved to urban area for that reason and mostly better wage salaries(R.Faridi, 2012).
The age-old question has plagued many, “Should I live in a city or should I live in the country?”. There are many advantages and disadvantages to choosing a lifestyle in either setting, and careful examination of all aspects is needed to make the perfect decision for you.
“A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them . . .such is my idea of happiness.” (Tolstoy) The differences between the lifestyles of the rural and the urban have been written into literature, primarily poetry since the very idea of the city was developed. From the time that these two groups began to identify themselves, the differences began to form. Plenty of writers have offered their opinions on what it means to live in the country, and the city alike. Robert Frost is one such poet. He has a countless number of works that focus their themes on the differences between these two groups. Robert Frost is very highly regarded for his depictions of rural life, drawing images from his own life. One such example of this being the poem Birches, where Frost describes the life of a boy in a rural setting. “Some boy too far from town to learn baseball, / Whose only play was what he found himself, / Summer or winter, and could play alone.” (Birches, 875) The fact that Frost drew from his own experiences is precisely why these texts had so much impact, leaving Frost as one of the most prominent authors of this category. Robert Frost is one of the few poets that have been able to accurately describe the growing difference between the lifestyle of the traditionally urban individuals and the lifestyle of the traditionally rural individuals.
