Is it wrong for a women, or anyone for that matter, to be forced into doing something they don’t want? Abortion? Getting married? To quit smoking? Would you force something like this on someone? In the country of China, women, as well as men are forced into only having one child per family because of their “One child Policy” to keep from the population rising too high. If women don’t respect this policy, and become pregnant with a second child, they are physically forced to get an abortion, and even in some circumstances, abandon their child. (Worldometers) Back in the early 1970’s, the Chinese population was rapidly approaching the one billion mark, and that was not a good thing according to Chinese Communist leader under Deng Xiaoping (Encyclopedia Britannica). Therefore, because this was not ideal for their country, a central committee of the Chinese Communist Party put forth a voluntary program that encouraged families to have no more than two children, but no more than one preferably, to help reduce/slow down the rising population. Back in the late 1970’s, with the population rising to almost two billion people, a change needed to made in order to keep providing for the population and society, and the Chinese government felt that a best way was to limit the family size to only one child per household. Another positive aspect of the policy is that, in 2000, with the population not exceeding its limit of 1.2 billion, the policy was updated, allowing rural area couples to have two children. Now, that might not say much to some, but it meant a lot to many families to have that opportunity.
