Frankenstein: or the Modern Prometheus was, and still is, a very controversial story. It shows a man playing god and being punished for it. The question stands, though. Is Frankenstein a hero for what he did? Even if you disagree with his actions on creating the monster, someone would’ve done it eventually, if not him. Was he forced to do the noble right after creating this creature? No, Frankenstein is not a hero. Frankenstein proved that he was not a hero when he went on his quest for knowledge, created this monster and then pretended the monster did not exist. Frankenstein proves that he is not a hero right away in his quest for knowledge. Early on in the book, Frankenstein decided that it was his life goal to know everything he could about Chemistry and the elixir of life. For the average person, this wouldn’t be too bad of a crime, but Victor took this to heart and cut off all contact with those who didn’t care too much of his goals in life. Frankenstein also also says with nonchalance that Elizabeth had come down with Scarlet Fever. Describing it as, “An omen, as it were, of my future misery,” on page 39. When he had the idea of making life, he had never once thought that he could be going against the nature of things. Frankenstein was so stubborn on the idea that he could become the greatest scientist ever, he never considered the consequences. Then, after this creature is made he realized what horrible mistake he had just made. Yet, in his mistake he never thinks of what his monster will feel, or how it will make others feel. He only truly cared about himself, and how this monster of his would affect his life. He described it as, ““How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care I had endeavored to form?” on page
