Is College Education Worthwhile?
With the general acknowledgement of today’s society, vast changes are witnessed by time, following many interesting things attracting the public’s attentions, especially the controversial questions and topics about the college education. Some people think that college education is necessary for the high school graduates. It helps them build an integrated education system and teach them all the useful knowledge and skills so that these teenagers can get a coming bright future. It makes their family’s life become tough. They raise a question that why not letting these students go to work instead of this worthless education. As what is mentioned in the article “College degree still worth the investment, data suggest”, the author Mary Beth Marklein shows many evidences to support her main idea that the college education is still worth to invest because it can give college graduates higher wages. She showed the audiences a data, which pointed out that college graduates earned generally 56% higher that people who only have a high school diploma in the past four years. The author also said, “From 1982 to 2001, bachelor 's degree holders earned an average 80% more and associate 's degree-holders almost 30% more than workers with no more than a high school diploma”. The similar contents are also presented in the article “Median Salary Up Two Percent for Higher Education Professionals”. The author insists that the higher degree you get, the higher salary you will earn. William Butler Yeats used to say, “Education is not filling of a pail but the lightning of a fire.” As what I have mentioned above, I firmly believe that college education is absolutely worth its cost, and accepting and taking college education is generally the only way to bring all the graduates a getter beginning of their entire lives.

You don’t need a college degree to have a good paying job. Not attending college affects ones literacy of financial awareness, their ability to receive a job, and their ability to carry our responsibilities.
Is college worth it? This is a topic that has been heavily debated for years, and years to come. The late nights, stressful debts, and long papers due- not accepted a second late; does that make up for the amazing memories, high paying jobs, and social connections? Absolutely. The experience college can give is remarkable. College is a valuable experience because individuals who attend will have a lower chance of being unemployed, will be in better health, and paying off debts will be possible!
Have you ever wondered if our education system has flaws? Well in the article “Against School” written by John Taylor Gatto, Gatto once a teacher explains how public education weakens the youth. He starts off the paper by saying how he taught for 30 years, went through a termination, and personally witnessed almost all of the schooling flaws. In Gatto’s article he lists very noticeable names, such as George W. Bush, George Washington, James Bryant Conant, and H.L Mencken to name a few. Having taught children for so long Gatto believes he has the expert rule in this subject. He proposes that to bring out the best qualities in a child you have to let them make decision and let them take their own risks. Gatto’s mission in this article is to make you consider, if school is actually important.
In both “Stop Scaring students”, by Devorah Lieberman and “College is a Waste of Time and Money”, by Caroline Bird, the authors consider the value of college education. Due to the long-term investment in higher education, college students should be informed about certain aspects of college, concerning whether college is beneficial or non-beneficial. Both oppositions present themselves with a strong argument, but only by looking at their similarities and differences one can uncover which is the best path for college students.
Many Americans do not question the credibility of the education system within the country because they believe it forms good citizens and creates a stepping-stone to success. John Taylor Gatto is an American teacher who has experience in the classroom for thirty years and has now devoted his life to critiquing American schools exploiting his own experiences. In his essay “Against School”, he argues that the 12-year system of school may not be necessary, due to its curriculum, and that it may be a tactic of manipulation from the government to promote obedience. I agree with his argument because there are many paths to individual success outside of public education, such as homeschooling or vocational school.
This article discusses the increase in students completing high school and going on to college some of whom obtain a degree while others do not. He also discusses the correlation between the amount of college education and unemployment. He concludes with statistics showing that a college education does pay off if the person has the academic capability to obtain a degree. This article will help me to show the benefits of college for certain people. It will allow me to show that a four year degree is not the best option for everyone.

College education is worth the cost since one can acquire a high paying job with a degree and pay the tuition off by the estimated age of thirty-four. The salary without a college education versus the salary with an education is a very big difference and will most likely be a life changing decision. Also, college doesn’t have to be expensive if you acquire grants and a scholarship and if you stay instate it will be much cheaper than out-of-state tuition. The difference between the salary you’ll acquire when you have a college degree is much more than a salary with no college degree.
Finally, Holt believes the best thing for children is to eliminate school curriculum altogether. In my opinion, many schools have incorporated many of Holt’s solutions into their curriculum. However, Holt’s illustration of what he believes is a real student is in fact is biased, and often factually incorrect. I believe that going to college to get an education is worth it because you can earn more money with more ability to attain a better job and you gain more income by going to college than you would if didn’t go.
