The fact that people do what they want, and choose what they do, could be viewed as being egoistic, but is not always the case. If an individual sincerely wants to help another person, this is an act of doing what you want; and could be perceived as being altruistic. I think codependent altruism is reducible because there are hidden agendas included. For instants, two friends went to a bar, they each had a drink, and one of the friend decides to pay for both drinks, with the intention that the next time they go drinking the other friend will pay for the drinks.
