Is cheating wrong? That is the question we have before us today. What is my opinion? We will get to that in a minute. The definition of cheating is to defraud; swindle; to deceive; to elude; to violate rules or regulations; to take an examination or test in a dishonest way. Wikipedia describes it like this: “Cheating is the getting of a reward for ability or finding an easy way out of an unpleasant situation by dishonest means. It is generally used for the breaking of rules to gain unfair advantage in a competitive situation. This broad definition will necessarily include acts of bribery, cronyism, nepotism, sleaze and any situation where individuals are given preference using inappropriate criteria. The reason why I ask this question is because we now live in a society where things change daily, where what is wrong today may not be wrong tomorrow. Where what use to be normal is not normal, where moral code of conduct is now wrong. As society changes what morality, ethics or custom are, just as the author of the Wikipedia described, “from an unwritten code of conduct”, who is to say that cheating is wrong? It was only a few years ago that our ancestors consider things like spell and grammar check as cheating, or how the person with the most money wins an election as cheating. When were these things put into the “not cheating”
That anything that was abnormal is now normal and right. That we don’t have the right to judge. That we don’t push our moral beliefs on to others. That cheating is ok. All because of that “unwritten code of conduct”.
So what is my opinion? My opinion is that we do have a written code of conduct. It is a code of conduct that founded this nation. It is a code of conduct that tells me right from wrong. It is a code of conduct that even if I don’t believe in I know that if I don’t follow there will be consequences in my life, or other around me. It is this code of conduct gives me my integrity, my morals, and my ethics. What is this code of conduct that I follow, that I believe in? It is God’s Word.
Proverbs 10:9 says this: “People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will slip and fall.” And Proverbs 28:18 says this: “The one who lives with integrity will be helped, but one who distorts right and wrong will suddenly
