“You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom,” (Rogers). If America wants to remain free, it must remain capitalist. Capitalism is better for America than socialism. Capitalism is about freedom and it helps insinuate productivity and cooperation. It also creates strong individual corporate businesses. Without capitalism, America would not be free like it is today. Unlike socialism, capitalism gives entrepreneurs room to thrive and grow. Socialism is not good for America because it kills the spirit of healthy competition, innovation, and success; which is what America is built on (Goetsch). It is a social system in which individual rights can only be violated by force (Rand). It is a system in which an individual can own property and other wealth without the government having ownership as well (Rand). Capitalism is the system of Laissez-Fair, also known as freedom (Rand). It is an economic system where individuals or individual corporate businesses can create their own wealth and do business as they please, without the government budding in (Dictionary.com).

Steven Horwitz stated that capitalism is good for the poor. He backs up his argument by bringing forth historical evidence and facts. He mentions that today over half of America’s poor own many household appliances and also a cell phone, they are just poor compared to wealthy in the United States. Capitalism has helped the poor because of man’s inventions and then innovation. One thing that new or large businesses do is open up new work opportunities, if a poor American takes advantage and applies for a job, he has taken their first step out of poverty. Horwitz assures that, “The biggest gains in the fight against poverty have occurred in countries that have opened up their markets.” When a country opens up their market, it causes economic growth, which spreads throughout the population, helping everyone. This pound fed both parents and several children, although they had a few more things for food, meat was the most valuable.
