Is Animal Testing Justified

Each year, approximately 100 million animals including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds are experimented on and killed in U.S. laboratories, according to PETA. This is all for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. Animal testing is when there is a use of non-human animals that act as the controlled variable to show the affect and behavior under a certain chemical. Is the animal experimentation really worth it? Some people have argued that animal experimentation can be justified because they are animals and they are not human but, a closer examination shows that animal cruelty can not be justified because of …show more content…

According to PETA.org, over 60,000 dogs are tormented in Laboratories every year for toxicology studies. Toxicology is the study of toxins, and scientists are testing helpless animals to study extremely deadly and toxic chemicals. According to PETA.org, "At Ohio State University, vivisector George Billman forced surgically manipulated dogs to run on a treadmill until they collapsed from a heart attack. The dogs were killed, and the damage to their heart tissue was studied." Another example is, at the University of Pennsylvania, puppies were bred to have an eye disease that causes blindness, and during this violent study after three weeks the beagle's eyes were cut out and the scientists left them for dead. These are just some examples of how cruel scientists are to these poor helpless animals. It is also extremely shocking that over 60,000 dogs are tormented each year. That is the amount of seats in Soldier Field. These animals still have life value but some people look past that and think that they are just animals. Another example is that these toxins are extremely harmful towards animals and this leaves animals in excruciating pain. With all these tests there are many side affects like bloody feces, worm infestations, oozing sores, abscessed teeth, hematomas, and pus- and blood-filled infections. This is awful because scientists are making animals test for something that they have no control for. When Scientists abuse animal they show no help and once the animals are done with the experiment they are killed. Animal testing should not be justified for science or research or out of curiosity. Animal testing should not be happening at all, but most people don't even realize that it is
