The Cold War: Why was it Cold? After the Second World War, countries were trying to establish back order and to make connections that lead to peace, and they were sort of successful in that. The Cold War was a state of tension between the Soviet Union and the United States and its NATO allies. The reason and the cause of the war were different; The Soviet Union did not trust the United States, and United States and its allies tried to weaken the Soviet Union. The Cold War did not involve direct war with weapons; it is considered as a war of ideas. It was congressed by President Harry S. Truman on March 12, 1947, and was more developed in 1948. The Truman Doctrine showed that the American help for other countries like Greece and Turkey is threatened by Soviet Communists; Greece and Turkey need more help economically and financially especially Greece. In the Truman Doctrine, Truman mentions that Greece needs urgent help because they are short on natural resources. Truman also mentions that Greek is threatened by thousands of armed men who are led by communists, and therefore America must help. Truman also refers to America as the only country that can help Greek; Britain has been helping as well, but they are also about to get into an economic crisis. In the Truman Doctrine, Truman mentions how important it is to help Turkey and Greek, and that after all the fighting it would be a loss to lose this fight. For him, there are two way of life; one is for the will of the majority which is driven by free elections, free institutions, freedom of speech and religion, and freedom of political oppression. Two is based on the will of the minority; it is based on terror and oppression, fixed elections and personal freedom. America must help free people who are suppressed by the second way of life. By helping the people to find their own way and free them, they are giving effect to the Atlantic Charter and the United Nations. Truman in most ways referred to the Soviet Union, and by helping Greek and Turkey, he wanted to avoid the Communists to enter a state and take more control. The Truman Doctrine was a document to stop Russia to interfere more into other countries and put his hands into states in order to have more control
