Iranian Education: From Modernization to Traditionalism
An education system, because of its purpose as the shaper of the future, is a good
indicator of what is going on within a country politically and culturally. The history
of the Iranian education system showed change as the ideological values of the
country shifted with each new regime change in the mid twentieth century. Iran, as
a country, went from a country focused on modernization and secularization under
the Reza Shah, to a country focused on traditional Islamic values under the new
government established after the Islamic Revolution of 1977-791. These changes
shifted the very purpose of education, its impact on women (in arguably negative or
positive ways), and its literature. The shift in political focus from modernism to
religious traditionalism can also be seen in how religion is taught in Iran, especially
compared with different countries around the world.
The history of the Iranian education system from 1907-1977 is one that is filled
with problems. In 1907, Iran established a Ministry of Science and Art to control
all areas of education, even religious education. In 1910, this ministry was
reorganized and renamed the Ministry of Education, and given more power to set
laws and guidelines for education, religious and secular. This body was not
necessarily effective in setting new guidelines for Iranian schools. The main
problem was overcoming was the lack of qualified, quality teachers (Szyliowicz 176-
7).
After 1925, the Shah2 built many new schools and tried to revitalize the
educational system. This effort was hampered again, by lack of qualified teachers
(Szyliowicz 231), a lack of coherent ideology (Szyliowicz 232), and a program of

Many great minds believe that education is a powerful tool. Investing in your education is the most valuable and most rewarding thing a person can do to secure their future. Influential people who have brought positive changes to the world have said: “The investment in knowledge pays the best interest”. (Franklin). “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. (Nelson Mandela). “A brighter future starts with an education”. (Montgomery).
Why is it important to make our public education system stronger? The public education system is presented all over the world today, providing the intellectual skills, knowledge, and wisdom. It broadens the attitudes and acceptance of others who are different, the understanding of how everything really works, and prepares the possible challenges for growth. However, the education system has flaws; students are being treated unequally and till this day has not been changed. The public education system is a tool of empowerment, liberation, and success due to the diversity within the schools, the intellectual growth, and the self actualization. But that barrier to empowerment, liberation, and success known as the site of oppression is also shown
Education could be considered an ingredient for prosperity. Education brings power to every aspect of the mind. When a teacher gives out a test and tells the students to put their items away, Students incline to take one last visually examine their study sheets. When the test is placed in front of a student, but as one or two go to answer the first question, they freeze in apprehensiveness.
It is safe to say that the current education system in the United States does not help create a good workforce, it does not help students meet their goals and it does not do a good job in creating good citizens. The current education system is not able to do this because not everyone is about to get a higher education, it is not practical, and a college education and grades are not good factors/indicators in determining a person’s success. Yes, the education system is better here than in other areas, but there are a few things that need to be worked on.
An educational system should not control its students’ minds; instead, it should be arranged in a way that builds the students’ success with a goal to lead a person to conquer his/her purposes.
The education we get today will help us prosper in the future, and the mor...
The education system has been a controversial issue among educators. Requirements of school do not let student choose what they want to study for their future. It’s a big issue to force student study specific curriculums, which don’t help them improve, and what they like to create something. Educators choose a general system for education to all students which based on general knowledge. Intelligent or genius students have to be in that system of education, which doesn’t let them improve their creativity. Educators attempt to change that system to make it better, but their changing was not that great to be an example for the world. Also, did that change qualify education system to compete other systems or not? In some examples and reasons have been made me agree with some of points from Gatto’s and Edmunson’s and disagree them.
Iran, also known as Persia, is a country in Western Asia. Though Iran is also known as Persia, it wasn't until 1935 that it adopted its present name. It is the second largest nation in the Middle East, having a land area of 1,648,195 km2. With over 77 million people, it is the world's 17th most populous nation. It shares borders with Iraq, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. In the 1500s B.C., Iran became an Islamic republic in 1979, until the monarchy was overthrown. The Medes and the Persians first occupied Iran. However, the Persian king Cyrus the Great overthrew the Medes and became ruler of the Persian Empire. Its official language, Persian, is Indo-European. Though Iran adopted a different version of the Arabic alphabet, it refused to lose its own identity after the establishment of the Arab Empire in the 7th century. Iran is home to one of the world's oldest continuous major civilizations, with historical settlements dating back to 4000 BCE. Iran's climate can be very extreme, ranging from subtropical to sub polar, due to the tremendous variations in altitude and rainfall. The Iranian nation is one of the oldest continuous civilizations in the world. The Mesolithic and Upper Paleolithic populations occupied caves in the Elburz and Zagros mountains, while the earliest civilizations in the region descended from the Zagros hills.
An education is something that one can keep for a lifetime. Acquiring a good education can affect one’s personal life, one’s community, and one’s entire generation.
For long periods of time, education has been important to the development the different scientific, moral and ethical fields of the humanity. In addition, it has been recognized by some governments as a human right, but in some places around the world; education is not accessible for everyone. Many people believe that having an educational system without any cost would mean a better educated society, whereas others argue that this would not be possible. To develop a better educated society, governments should establish a totally free education system for the following three reasons.
Many students suffer from the school system. Many students face problems in schools because lack of the system. There are so many problems in school that should never be there, education now involving more problems than anything else. In recent years so many people have lost their lives in the class-room. There are ways to improve school system by police presence, to end overcrowded condition, and to hire more qualified teachers.
Education is a vital part of society. It serves the beneficial purpose of educating our children and getting them ready to be productive adults in today's society. But, the social institution of education is not without its problems. Continual efforts to modify and improve the system need to be made, if we are to reap the highest benefits that education has to offer to our children and our society as a whole.
Definitely this system is not going to be successful if schooling and education do not stand in handy on each other:
Education should be a part of everyone's life. A good education offers something for everyone, whether it be on the simple level or a more complex one. Education should provide provide an opportunity for students to develop a strong sense of creativity, a high self esteem, and a life long respect for learning. Education should help students establish a strong sense of confidence in themselves. A teacher will be one factor that helps a student learn and progress along their way through life. Teachers combine their own ideas with other people's to be able to give a good education to their students.
Nelson Mandela once said,“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Education is the process of gaining information about the world. Education gives us knowledge of the world around us and changes it into something even better. Access to education is the foundation of a democratic society, because it provides an opportunity for all to achieve the American Dream, ensures equality and justice, and allows for our country to compete globally for a prosperous future.
