The idea behind the Iowa Narrative project was to bring light to an unknown narrative that was connected to Iowa City in some way. My group decided to bring light to the Black Angel statue. We knew that the legend behind this statue was know around campus and that it was a legend many people believed in. Our purpose for shinning light on this legend was to persuade people to see that the myth may not be true. I feel like we accomplished this by setting our goal, setting the mood, logos, and using induction to gain credibility. The first step in creating the podcast was setting a goal. One of the ways we accomplished this was by using imagery. In our podcast we provided vivid detail of what the black angel statue looked like. We explained in vivid detail what the statue looked like, from the color, to a description of the face. We also explained where the statue was. By using imagery in the podcast it allowed for the audience to imagine the statue and create an eerie essence behind it. To keep the eerie feeling within the audience we began to describe the myth behind the black angel. One of our group members held an interview with his friend that had been to the black angel. The interviewee was well known to the class. Due to the fact that many of our classmates in our class knew the interviewee, he became a credible resource. Students knew him and knew that he had been to the black angel statue and that he was still alive so it helped persuade them that our thoughts on the myth may be true. Including these interviews in our podcast was another form of a rhetorical tool. Heinrichs explains that providing facts and stories to help persuade you audience (Heinrichs, 2007).
