I choose business management because every business is in need of excellent leaders to run their company. A business would not persist if they did not have managers organizing and leading their employees. Webster defines management as the act or skill of controlling and making decisions about a business or department using available resources efficiently and effectively. Management comprises of planning, staffing, leading, and directing an organization to accomplish a goal. Merriam-Webster. Web. 14 Nov. 2013. All skills of which I will need to one day run my own homeless shelter.
Deciding what college I was going to attend was not easy, there are so many to choose from. One day I am explaining Centura College to a student and it dawned on me why I never thought to come to the school I work for. Centura is committed to seeing their students succeed and providing all the resources and help they need. There is no reason not to succeed with all the support you receive.
I started out not knowing what I wanted to do. I had an idea of running my own homeless shelter but I had no clue wh...
...Selecting a college to attend was a lengthy process. I applied to four different schools. I outweighed all the pros and cons of each college. The ultimate goal was to persevere and graduate with a degree. As a high school student, I think I found Ohio State appealing because of all the hype that surrounded it. Once I came to the conclusion that I wanted to go into the medical field, I realized that I needed to be in an atmosphere where I could maintain my focus. Nonetheless, the most consequential influencing factor was regarding finances. Case was extremely expensive but I received a substantial amount of financial help compared to Ohio State. In addition, I was fortunate to obtain a work study job that helped with living expenses. I knew that college would not be easy especially given Case’s reputation. In the end, I am confident I made the correct decision.
But, once I graduate high school, my next step is to attend Tulsa Community College. There were several factors in this decision. Such as, I get to live at home still and continue to save my money. I get to attend for free since I live in Tulsa County and will perform forty hours of community service. Plus, the great thing about community colleges is that they accept anyone, whether they tried or did not try in school, students still have a way to continue their education. Community college allows for students to take the time to figure out what they want to do with their life. I am grateful I was presented with this option to attend Tulsa Community College, otherwise, I might be going to a four-year school, far away from my family, and I might be stuck in a major that I am no longer interested
While I wish finding my way around the school was my only problem, I was faced with some internal challenges. As the school year started, my friends slowly started to leave to these “big shot” colleges or simply move away to other community colleges. I, too, wanted the complete “college experience” somewhere in Arizona or across the country; yet I felt stuck and unaccomplished. I also felt jealousy which could have been because I did not get to decorate my dorm room. While talking about dedicating hard work to your education, Gina Rodriguez said “Just remember, during those times of fear and doubt, that you are right now discovering your true strength.” And in those times of doubt, I reminded myself why I could not just move and leave everything behind. The root of my challenges and concerns are my family. As I enrolled as a full time student, my family was fighting some financial problems which created marriage troubles for my parents. I could not leave at a time like this. I knew it was not the first time my parents were talking divorce but somehow I knew it was best to stay. I got financial aid from the school which saved me the fuss of asking my parents for money. It really meant so much to not put another worry on their
When it comes down to choosing a college or a university to attend, the decision may be hard to make. Students often compare differences and similarities in their college experience between small and big schools when it comes to looking more into the learning environment, housing opportunities, and the entertainment provided.
I have a passion for social services, program development, children’s safety and welfare, family rehabilitation and reunification, and community development through education and action. I have a heart for working with and learning from youth. I have recently developed a desire to help transition the homeless to better-living circumstances. My education and career experiences have solidified that social justice is an international cause, but change starts locally. I believe in helping your neighbor and want my life to be a ministry to be a helper to others. I believe that knowledge is empowering and I intend to live my life constantly
Over this course of this semester, I have learned a tremendous amount of information about myself from the self-exploration series. The results of my PGI (Personal Globe Inventory) presented me with a couple of different career paths to explore. The first type of career that was brought up to my attention was an enterprising career. There were a number of enterprising careers, but the one that interested me the most was business management. I decided to choose the business management because I am majoring in Sustainability and my focus is in Economics. I think business management would be an excellent fit for myself because I have actually done some research prior to this class about management. I would like to someday own an ice rink, and I think that becoming a manager would be a great stepping-stone towards reaching my goal. The requirements for becoming a business manager vary from university to university, but the overall direction of the major revo...
attending college, however, I knew I would enter a profession which involved service to others.
Presently many of us have learned that managers are primarily administrators who have learned to write business plans, utilize their resources and keep track of progress. We must learn that we are not limited by job title, and that means we can utilize our management skills in any position that we are in. We must also know that we can use our leadership skills in the same situations. On the other hand we have also learned that leaders are people who have an impact on those that surround them. The main difference that separates these two roles is that management is a function that must be utilized in any type of business, and leadership is the relationship that the leader has with his followers, which in turn can motivate and energize the organization.
For me, it didn’t click that I can turn these characteristics and skills into a career that I would enjoy until I started meeting regularly with my High School Counselor, Mrs. Corbin. I met with Mrs. Corbin once a day for about an hour in order to receive my community service hours that were required for graduation. Much like me, she has a passion for helping others and she carried me through my entire senior year. She would show my how to fill out college applications, help determine which college was the best fit for me, we spoke a lot about what major I should consider, and give me advice or just listen to what was going on in my life. She really inspired me to be on this path that I am today because I want to give others the help, love, and support she gave me. She recognized my desire to help others and “people person” skills and would always say “You’ll miss your calling in life if you don’t become some sort of counsellor”. That phrase always

However, for those of you like me who have no idea what you want to do and are being dragged, kicking and screaming into the real world, nothing sounds pretty good. Instead we need to start small like in the movie "What about Bob?" We need to take baby steps out of the office, then baby steps down the hall and baby steps all the way outside until eventually we will reach our home. But, deciding to live each day to the fullest and grasping every opportunity with both hands is a good way to start.
The decision is totally up to me. There are many positives and negatives to attending college. Go over them, and then decide. I know myself better than anyone else, and I won’t let anyone else tell me what to do. I will make sure if I am going to attend college that I have something in mind that I want to do, to succeed in.
As a child, have you ever been asked what do you want to be when you grow up? When I was little, all I ever wanted to do was open up my own dance company. I chose to study Business Administration because I love the feeling of being an in professional and sophisticated manner. I really feel as though choosing the business field was the best option I ever made for myself because I’m getting the opportunity to show many people out there how professional I can be and also the skills I have as a person.
A degree in management will help me grow professionally and render me managerial skills to handle business related conflicts in the world of business. This is only possible through university knowledge...
At this point in my life I don’t think the business of the company is very important and maybe my perspective will change with time but at the moment it is not important if I work for a company that is engaged with construction, trade, accounting or something else. It is important that in this company I can put in good use my knowledge and continue learning and developing and that the environment inspires me to do that. If I am practical I would say that the business of my dream company should be accounting or auditing because I have more practical knowledge in this spheres. My ideal company is stable and constantly striving for success but not at the expanse of the community’s welfare.
