Investigation of Human Suffering
Human suffering is universal and inescapable. When there is joy, there
is pain waiting to happen. When there is pain, an individual always
tries to escape it. Humans are faced with hardships in life, and along
with those hardships come emotional distress and pain. Humans attempt
to understand the reasoning for suffering, the inflicting pain and
stress that they have to endure. Humans cannot resolve their own
problems; they turn to God or another form of religion to answer
questions about the imperfections of life. The complexity of human
suffering is hard to grasp because of its infinite forms, which makes
it difficult to escape from.
Although humans suffer regardless of their age, race, or gender, they
suffer in different ways. Some people have to suffer more than the
others, which make humans question the dissatisfaction and unfairness
of life. Harold Kushner's son, Aaron, was diagnosed with progeria in
his infancy, aging rapidly and dying at an early age (Kushner 452-53).
Of all the other babies, Aaron was the baby chosen by fate to suffer a
deadly illness. The chance of getting this disease is so rare that
Kushner's son's illness seemed unfair to his family. Kushner cries,
"On what grounds did Aaron have to suffer? He was an innocent child.
Why should he be condemned to grow into adolescence? It simply didn't
make sense" (453). Kushner exclaims that his son was mistreated and
obstruction of the progeria disease had not allowed Aaron to grow up
as a normal child, taking him away from his family. Kushner questions
why Aaron had to be the one forced to endure the pain and suffering.

... the reasons for suffering and why was it meant for us to suffer. I
agree with the authors that human suffering is unavoidable. There is
no cure to ending suffering but there are ways to relieve the stress
of suffering. I believe suffering can be relieved if humans look at
all perspectives of suffering and the cause of it. If humans know what
caused them to feel pain then they should learn to avoid what it is
that is making them feel bad although it be cannot escaped from it
completely. A person can fall in love but when he or she has been
heartbroken, one begins to suffer emotional distress and pain. Humans
always need something like food, shelter, and love. Humans seem
insecure because they cannot survive on their own. I can see no human
suffering when an individual does not need to question the adversity
of life.
and the people around him. His mother did not even care enough to keep his birth
The novel, the Agony and Ecstasy written by Irving Stone portrays Michelangelo's big ego and determination, taking the reader through his childhood to the moment he takes his last breath. Similar to the movie Ender's game, it shows Ender's determination to win the war with himself and the Formics . The main characters in the movie and book both endure thick and thin to face the desire to overcome obstacles.
Life events can play a big part in causing stress. They don't have to be big negative events such as getting a divorce or a spouse dying but also normally good events such as holidays or getting married can also be stressful.
African-Americans’/ Affrilachians’ Suffering Mirrored: How do Nikky Finney’s “Red Velvet” and “Left” Capture events from the Past in order to Reshape the Present?
“Sonny’s Blues” is a short story in which James Baldwin, the author, presents an existential world where suffering characterizes a man’s basic state. The theme of tragedy and suffering can be transformed into a communal art form such as blues music. Blues music serves as a catalyst for change because the narrator starts to understand that not only the music but also himself and his relationship with Sonny. The narrator’s view of his brother begins to change; he understands that Sonny uses music as an exit of his suffering and pain. This story illustrates a wide critical examination. Richard N. Albert is one critic that explores and analyzes the world of “Sonny’s Blues”. His analysis, “The Jazz-Blues Motif in James Baldwin’s “Sonny’s Blues”” is an example of how one can discover plot, characterization and jazz motif that builds this theme of suffering.
The Agony and the Ecstacy depicts Michelangelo’s struggle to become the embodiment of Renaissance humanism. In the course of the novel Michelangelo must overcome the interference of his family, religious dogma, political intrigue, papal patronage, military campaigns, and artistic jealousy to realize his artistic ambition.
Honestly, this weeks lecture for Senior Symposium was kind of disappointing. After a two week dearth of stimulating speeches, students piled once again into the Hall Campus Center’s Ballroom only to be told they would not be hearing a well thought speech crafted specifically for them. Instead, they were told that they would be viewing a prerecorded Ted Talk that was only tangentially relevant to the reading and only moderately relatable to life as a college student in Lynchburg. The real life professors who introduced the video and answered questions did a fantastic job but the whole exercise felt a bit cheap after four solid weeks of excellent lectures in the flesh. None of this, however, means that the topics discussed in this youtube video
In “Historicizing historical trauma theory,” Krista Maxwell examines the treatment of Aboriginal people by the government over the past few decades up until the present-day through one issue I find particularly important, which is that of child welfare.
The “The Kübler-Ross Five Stages of Grief” is, in my experience, the psychological anecdote most familiar to the layman. In it, the framework is laid for how the average human typically responds to a life altering tragedy. The model presents us with a rocky and emotional road from denial to acceptance – the sort of journey one would certainly be expected to embark upon should a sudden and tragic death befall their beloved mother.
I am writing to thank you for speaking to the sophomore class of Richard Montgomery High School on November 7th, about your experience during the Holocaust. I found your story to be very personal and educational. I would also like to thank you for taking your time to speak with us.
The cruel, smelly , poisonous gas that killed thousands of people. The victims had to fight for their life. They didn't know what was going on , once they were locked in a room with hundreds of people. Then all of a sudden, lights turn off and the chaos began. Gas chambers of the Holocaust, it's a type of execution that killed people. The Holocaust mainly happened in Germany and wherever else the nazis had control of. They installed the gassing chambers in the following cities: Bernburg, Brandenburg, Grafeneck, Hadamar, Hartheim, and Sonnenstein. Nazis chose who were to be thrown in the gas chambers, for example, the ones "unworthy of life". If the victims were sick, had a mental illness or physically disabled were tossed in the chamber and
Suffering can be defined as an experience of discomfort suffered by a person during his life. The New York Times published an article entitled what suffering does, by David Brooks (2014). In this article, Brooks explains how suffering plays an important role in our pursuit of happiness. He explains firstly that happiness is found through experiences and then, suffering can also be a motivation in our pursuit of happiness. In other words, suffering is a fearful but necessary gift to acquire happiness. This paper is related to motivation and emotion, two keys words to the pursuit of happiness (King, 2010).
Long-term Continuity of care is an ongoing process that helps with progressive improvement of both physical and mental health for survivors of disasters. The sustainability of the mental health of survivors is very significant so that they may find a way to live life in a normal extent after the experiences of traumatic event. The impact of trauma can have both short-term and long-term negative influence on the survivor’s future. However, the focus to promote a long-term treatment for issues that arises as a result of trauma. Many of the result that arises from disaster may consist of anxiety, depression, acute stress disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (Halpern & Tramontin, 2007). There are long-term treatments approaches that may help to care for traumatized victims. The long term treatments includes: cognitive-behavioral therapies, family therapy and group therapy (Halpern & Tramontin, 2007). These treatments are difficult in a way that they help those survivors that do that help easily survive tragic circumstances.
I truly had a bad experience when I was six years old that changed my life forever. Some assume that kids who have traumatic experiences are always messed up in some ways but, that isn't entirely true some turn out okay like, me and my brother. There is one thing you should know about Chloe she was the boss of the house and she had everyone wrapped around her little finger. It was the morning of December seventeenth when my eighteen month old sister Chloe Carin Keiser wandered into my brothers room next door which is to my room.I had heard a boom and come to find out and face that my sister was laying underneath a twenty-seven inch television.I quickly woke my brother and we had run to my parents room. They quickly woke and had pulled the tv off
