Pre-test Findings:
From my pre-test, I found out that using the nichrome wire would be
best to use because it gave the both more reliable results and were
also closer together. Constantan was not suitable for the
investigation because it gave very inaccurate results- the range was
very large. Copper was not suitable both because it had a very low
resistance, and also heated up very fast, so could burn someone.
Therefore I decided to use nichrome wire.
I also decided to use a wooden block to keep hold of the wire, because
it will keep the wire taut and also to prevent anyone getting burnt.
Another thing I decided was to use digital multimeters because they
give more accurate results- to 2dp- and can measure both the current
and voltage on the same instrument.
The ranges of lengths I will be using for my final investigation are:
0.2m, 0.4m, 0.6m, 0.8m and 1.0m.
Fair Testing:
The variable I am testing for this investigation is the length of the
wire I will be using.
v I will be keeping the following things the same:

I know this because the text says “After the chickens cleared out, I looked at the broken beam and saw that my wires had crossed during the collapse.”(217) As a result, William brainstorms a better plan for the lights because if the wires cross then they could catch fire. Then William starts to make a breaker box for his lights. So, He installs the breaker box to the wall and also a light switch. Ultimately, William did that so he wouldn’t catch his house on fire.
Measuring the Resistivity of a Wire Aim The aim of this experiment is to find out how the area of the cross section of the wire affects the resistance and also to find out the resistivity of the wire having found the resistance over a certain length and using a certain cross sectional area. I will also experiment to see how the length of the wire affects the resistance. Plan The first thing that I will do is to set up the apparatus as shown. below. The.. A, V Except for the experiment where I alter the length, I will keep the length of the wire constant throughout the experiments and only change.
Factors that Effect the Resistance to a Piece of Wire Aim; My aim is to find out what factors (variables) effect the resistance to a piece of wire. Scientific knowledge; To work out the resistance I would use this formula; R= V I And to work out the current I would use this formula; Folded Corner: Voltage (V) is measured in volts = V Current (I) is measured in ammeters = A Resistance (R) is measured in ohms = Ω I =

Iron nail (1) Paperclips (several). Power supply (1) Coil (1) Method: - - - The method is relatively systematic. We first allocated various people amongst our group to collect different equipment such as the iron nails, paperclips, coils and power supply. Following that, we connected everything securely and wrapped the coil five times around.
Investigating the Resistance of a Wire The aim of this investigation is to see how the length of a wire affects its resistance. Background knowledge To make current flow through a conductor, there must be a potential difference (voltage) across it. As the current continues to flow there are certain factors which increase the resistance; Length of wire: as the length increases there will be a higher percentage of fixed atoms, therefore the electrons carrying the charge will collide more frequently, increasing the resistance Surface Area of wire- As you increase the surface area of a wire the resistance will decrease because the electrons will be able to travel by many different routes making the conduction easier. Type of conductor- If the wire is a good conductor of electricity then the resistance will be less because the electrons are able to flow through the wire avoiding as many collisions with the positive protons.
The Resistance of a Wire Investigation Aim: To investigate how changing the length of a wire affects the resistance. Prediction: I predict that the longer the piece of wire, the greater the resistance will be. This is because the current is resisted by the atoms in the wire. In a longer piece of wire, there would be more atoms for the electrons to collide with and so the resistance would be greater. The shorter piece of wire will have less resistance because their will be less particles causing less collision.
In order to understand what Ohms Law is all about you need to understand electricity and what makes Voltage, Current and Resistance in a circuit.
