Introduction to Fiction Final Paper
Introduction:
I will try to show that Fenstad's mother is going through a change
during this story. At first she is described as a strong independent
woman very active social in control of things. She is not accepting
things as they are she tries to change the things that seem wrong to
her. However, gradually we are starting to see her as an old woman who
hates her age. A woman, who has a hard time excepting her age and all
the downsides of it, a woman whose physical condition is parallel to
her mental and emotional state, who needs help doing things which
young people do without any effort. It seems that during the story
Fenstad and his mother change places. Once he was dependent on her and
now gradually we see that she is more and more dependent of her son.
Fenstad's mother is gradually going through the process of accepting
her age and the changes she is going trough consequently. It is
difficult for her at first however eventually she stops being
preoccupied with the past and what she once was. She comes to terms
with her life and learns to appreciate and enjoy the little (simple)
pleasures of life, like music. The name of this fiction story is
Fenstad's Mother, the word mother is written with a capital letter
which sometimes can mean a woman in charge of some community. This
description is suitable for her character as it is described at the
beginning of the story. Clara Fenstad's going to her son's class,
meeting the people that took this class, listening to them and being
loved and appreciated by them helps her through this period. One of
this people influenced her very much and was responsible for one of
the various changes she went through. The fact that Fenstad's mother
learned to accept him as he made them closer and happier.
Fenstad's Mother:
At the beginning of the story Fenstad's mother is shown like a strong
and active woman. She is very much involved in the things that happen
around her. She is progressive and social. "Fenstad's mother was a
life long social progressive" (p.115). She is not taking seriously
her sons churchgoing, "was amused by her son's churchgoing. She had
spent her life in the company of rebels and deviationists, and she
recognized all their styles." (p.115). She is very logical and
attentive, "She glanced down at his trousers, damped with melted snow.
"You've been skating" "(p.116) she is aware of her son's habits, but
not necessary approves of them. She sneers her son's behavior and
looking for slips in it.
Jonathan Gottschall in his article,'' Why fiction is good for you ,'' he begins with question in his article is fiction good for us ? as it's known we spend most of time in our life by read novels , watching films , tv shows and other . Most of these things may affect us in a positive or negative way . Jonathan in his article show us that '' fiction seems to be more effective at changing beliefs than nonfiction, which is designed to persuade through argument and evidence through studies that show us when we read nonfiction, we read with our shields up. We are critical and skeptical. But when we are absorbed in a story, we drop our intellectual guard '' ( Gottschall 3) . He also states in conclusion,'' Reading narrative fiction allows one
she does as much as she can do to fit in and act as old as possible.

Some people write for entertainment and some people write for fortune, but other people write to tell the world their story and enlighten us to life’s lessons. Literary fiction is created to do more than just merely entertain. It is created to tell a story, to take the reader from one mindset to another and bring about the reader’s understanding of the purpose. Literary fiction explores innate conflicts of the human condition through cosmic writing. Richard Wright chooses to use this kind of writing to reach the world. Wright grew up in a time where he was denied many privileges because of his color and he really made a point to express his feelings to us through his writing. His life, works and short story “A Man Who Was Almost a Man contribute directly to his literary style.
You’re sitting in a open field, the gentle breeze is blowing swiftly, the yellow sun beams are embracing the earth, the flowers are blooming in all varying hues of the beautiful rainbow; the eternal feeling of bliss is overwhelming and it feels like time has stopped. Who wouldn’t want to be here? But what if that breeze was suddenly replaced by strong, loud winds, clouds started to cover the once-sunny sky, the flowers around you started to shrivel and die: everything changed. A sense of vulnerability would wash over, leaving you feeling isolated, or even dreadful. You would want to leave, wouldn’t you? This is how I felt in the beginning of my eighth grade year, but ultimately, I found my way back to that open field.
I learned more than just ten new things in this class, I also gained new insight about things that I already knew and now feel that I have a much greater understanding of how civilizations build upon each other. The realization that many of the things in our own civilization were passed down from civilizations that existed thousands of years ago was amazing and surprising and has made me view things in a whole new way.
Fiction stories are those stories not true or factual and are created by the author. These stories are imagined by the author and narrated to the reader. The reader has the opportunity to add their own imagination to the story to make the reading even more enjoyable. Fiction relies on the imagination of the author and the imagination of the reader along with the elements of fiction. Fiction readings are in the form of realistic and non-realistic. When discussing these two types of fiction readings two stories come to mind. The realistic story that comes to mind is the story of “A & P” by John Updike. John Updike is “…considered one of the best of American writers of fiction and poetry” and his story of “A & P” proves to be an ideal example of fiction (V., and Zweig 370). The non-realistic story is “The Fox and the Grapes”, which is found in Aesop’s Fables. Both of these narratives contain elements of fiction easily identified and therefore entertaining to discuss. Characters and point of view are two of the elements of fiction found in these two short stories. Discussion of these two elements, expand on the knowledge of fiction stories through examples and definitions.
In 1972 the small close-knit town of Rockport, Missouri, Clara Reed Annabell Zacharia Yancey was exhausted. Her normally beautiful brown hair was now matted and dry, her normally healthy slim figure had now turned to a sickly sack of bones, and her gorgeous gleaming green eyes were now full of gloom and guilt. she was exhausted of pretending she was ok, and exhausted of all the heavy hearted looks the town gave her whenever she left her home. All the grief stricken glances and all the overbearing “are you okays?” only reminded her of the remorse she felt when she heard about the fishing incident. Her husband and son went fishing for the weekend and Her son, Zach, dropped his favorite worn out brown cap his father gave him into the water,
When I was about 8-10, It was three days before christmas I was sitting in my room wondering how santa managed to get to every house in one night. I thought to myself “it’s not logically possible for Santa to travel to every house in one night he can’t even get in my house because we don't have a chimney in our house and I was always told that he entered through a chimney.” “Also how does he manage to carry over 6 billion in one night?” So I ask my Mom these questions because I can't answer them myself and my parents tell me that they will talk to santa to give us more candy” so I assume that they should know. So I ask and she tells me “he uses magic to do everything.” “Ok but how does he get into our house then?” “Well
Throughout the experiences obtained by inmates, correctional officers, and the prions administration as result of the prison itself, is overall negative. Unfortunately, she is full aware of not fulfilling the stereotype of a girl her age and she does not like it, Olsen’s narrator clearly states:
When I heard the news of the tornado warning, I made sure to pick up the phone and warn my friends; Angela and Gigi, who happened to go to the mall without me… It was not even minutes later before I had all of them on the phone telling them to hurry to my house, so we can hide in the basement. It was September 2013, and I was at home by myself. When I told my friends about the warning, they actually thought that I was joking. I made sure to make them come, because if they get swiped out from the tornado, I will literally die… When they came, we gathered everything we would need. Then, we entertained ourselves while hiding, and after, came something serious…
