One specific obstacle I have faced was having bad grades for not knowing English. For me, learning a new language has not been as simple as it seems and is harder because I do not have relatives around here who can help me practice to improve. Having entered into this country was a very good thing because there are many opportunities, but at the beginning I recognized that it is very difficult to adapt since the language and the customs are different. Learning a new language brought me many challenges; one of them were bad grades in school because I did know English. I remember that the first time I received a report of my grades by mail. Acting in purpose means “do important actions first, preferably before they come urgent” (Downing, 2015, p. 103). Developing Self-Discipline is the willingness to do whatever has to be done, whether we feel like or not, until we reach our dreams and goals (Downing, 2015, p. 120). Commuting to your goals and dreams is when we promise ourselves that we will do whatever it takes to accomplish our goals and dreams (Downing, 2015, p. 88). I select those strategies of On Course because they help me to stay on track. I implemented committing my goals and dreams by visualizing my future and putting the effort in the classes I am taking to get there. I implemented developing self-discipline because it has three essentials ingredients (to overcome challenges like mine) which are commitment, focus and persistence. The three essential ingredients help me to don’t give up and keep going. I will implement acting in purpose because to get a good grade in the assignments I need to complete them early to make sure I don’t sabotage my dreams and goals.
