In Jon Krakauer's novel Into the Wild, the main character, Chris McCandless, seeks nature so that he can find a sense of belonging and the true meaning of who he is. However, it is the essence of nature that eventually takes his life away from him. At the end of his life, he is discovers his purpose and need of other people. After Chris McCandless death in Alaska, Krakauer wrote Into the Wild to reflect on the journey that McCandless makes. Krakauer protrays McCandless as a young man who is reckless, selfish, and arrogant, but at the same time, intelligent, determined, independent, and charismatic.

His parents were told by one of his teachers at an early age that Chris "marched to the beat of his own drummer". Chris never lost his ability to do things the way he wanted and when he wanted to do them. After receiving his diploma from Emory in 1990 he set off on a two-year escapade that would eventually end his life but in my opinion, if Chris could start over he would probably not do things much differently. I think he would still donate his $25,000 to an organization, leave his car in the woods, burn the remainder of his money, and hitch-hiked across the United States. The only thing he might do differently is finding a way not to starve to death at the end of the novel.

I'll just tell you one more thing about last year then I will move on, I met a girl called Vicky who I spent most of the holiday with. As we got on really well, I knew she was going back this year but she had a boyfriend so it would be a bit different. We got parked up eventually, I went to get the wated while Quinny, started putting up the tent our sleeping house for the week. After we had finished setting up my mum and dad sent us down to the fish and chip shop that we had seen on the way in. It took about twenty mintues to walk to, so on the way back I phoned my dad to come and pick us up.

With this breakthrough, Chris leaves society and the comforts of his life to rough it and get down to the root of what makes him smile. Into the Wild is an intriguing book that tells a story of a man on a mission to find his peace; but no matter how good the story is, the confusing style of the writing takes away from the book’s excellence. Chris McCandless, a recent college graduate, is on a road trip when he learns that his father has a second family. This news disturbs Chris and he decides to make a drastic lifestyle change. Without telling anyone, including his family, of his plans, Chris leaves all of his possessions and embarks on a journey through the United States.

In Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer states that exploring nature brings personal awareness. Chris McCandless, a North Carolinian, has gone through a rough childhood. Chris didn’t get along with his parents very well and his dad had 2 marriages at the same time. Chris was a man that was all for adventures. He loved to explore.

I feel that Chris McCandless was at a disadvantage when he first started off. Raised by a wealthy family and just graduating from Emory University I feel he wasn’t as prepared as he could have been. Fortunately his father had taken him on hiking trips so he was at least somewhat familiar with the wilderness but in no way was he prepared at all for the severity of the Alaskan wilderness. I think it would have been quite a feat just for Chris to have been able to live off the land in a local forest. To be fair to Chris I’m sure Krakauer didn’t start off by just one day deciding he would climb the Devils Thumb after he was inspired by making it up the climbing wall at the local county fair.

In Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer explores the human fascination with the purpose of life and nature. Krakauer documents the life and death of Chris McCandless, a young man that embarked on an Odyssey in the Alaskan wilderness. Like many people, McCandless believed that he could give his life meaning by pursuing a relationship with nature. He also believed that rejecting human relationships, abandoning his materialistic ways, and purchasing a book about wildlife would strengthen his relationship with nature. However, after spending several months enduring the extreme conditions of the Alaskan wilderness, McCandless’ beliefs begin to work against him.

This book Into The Wild is about how a young man wants to get away from the world. He does escape from society, but ends up dying in the process. The author, Jon Krakauer, does a great job of describing Chris McCandless and his faults. Chris is an intelligent college graduate. He went on a two-year road trip and ended up in Alaska.

In Jon Krakauer’s book “Into the Wild”, Krakauer describes the travels of Chris McCandless, a young man, who travels alone into the Alaskan wilderness. Krakauer details Chris’s painful demise from starvation was at the age of 24 in an abandoned bus deep in Alaska. According to Krakauer, Chris McCandless left for Alaska because he was seeking refuge from his betrayal by his father. Chris was searching for truth; something he could believe in after he had found out his dad led a double life; one with Chris and his mother and another with another woman and another son. It seems McCandless was looking to test himself; to prove he could survive in the wild without society, but mostly without his father’s help.
