Barney, a teenage boy, and his parents rent a summer cabin in Dunstable. Him and his parents are staying in a house that belonged to Captain Latham. Captain Latham had a trading ship when Dunstable was an important port.
The captain’s stupid younger brother was a sailor on his ship. And he went crazy and was locked in the front bedroom where barney sleeps for 20 years. When the Captain was out in the South Pacific they picked up a shipwrecked sailor. The guy they rescued bunked with the crazy brother. And the next morning the sailor was dead the brother had strangled him.
The crazy brother was sentenced to be keelhauled but he did not die was just permently brain damaged. And clawed around the windows for the rest of his life.
They realize from Ted (the guy the are renting the house from) that their neighbors wanted this cabin a lot but Barney and his parents ended up getting it. When Barney meets his neighbors he thinks that they are a little bit weird but his parents don’t think that they are too bad of people in fact they sort of like them. Barney describes them as animal like the way they move and that they seem to be fasenated in the sky and water. Barney is observing the neighbors and states that they had a purplish cast in the fading light, which is strange because humans aren’t purple unless there defective. After several hours Zena knocks on the front door and barney describes her eye color as deep lavender.
His neighbors also have a strange game they play that’s called Interstellar Pig. Their neighbors are about in their mid-twenties there is one girl, Zena, and two boys, Joe and Manny. Barney is rummaging threw the neighbors house when they leave to try and find out why they are so interested in the house and why they just stopped and was like in a trance when they saw the markings on the window.
Barney finds some old document when he is searching threw their house and finds out that these neighbors wanted his house because there is some hidden secret in it, which Barney doesn’t have a clue what it is till he is looking at the scratch marks around the window and relies that they point to a large boulder at the southern tip of the island.
Hospital-acquired infections (HAI) are preventable and pose a threat to hospitals and patients; increasing the cost, nominally and physically, for both. Pneumonia makes up approximately 15% of all HAI and is the leading cause of nosocomial deaths. Pneumonia is most frequently caused by bacterial microorganisms reaching the lungs by way of aspiration, inhalation or the hematogenous spread of a primary infection. There are two categories of Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia (HAP); Health-Care Associated Pneumonia (HCAP) and Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP).
The first two boys to meet each other were Ralph and another boy who although he protested, reluctantly accepted the nickname “Piggy”. The boys romped around, having fun swimming and running around until they chanced upon a conch. Piggy suggested to Ralph that he blow the conch to call the others. Ralph figured out how to blow the conch and proceeded to call the others. Slowly but surely, all the remaining survivors started trickling in to the cove where Ralph and Piggy had found the conch. Ralph proposed that they vote for a chief, and the all the boys except for the choir, voted for Ralph. Ralph’s first matter of business is to go on a hunt to make sure that this really is an island. He takes Jack and another boy, Simon and goes to the highest point on the island to scout out their newfound home. The trio confirms their theory that this is an island and they are indeed the sole inhabitants.
In Dick Wolf’s television show Law and Order: Special Victims Unit episode entitled “Home Invasions” the writer conveys the message that people cannot take the law into their own hand. In the episode the detectives from the New York police department’s special victim’s unit investigate the homicide of a gay rights activist and her husband as well as the attempted homicide of their young daughter. As the investigation progressed throughout the show it is discovered that the father was sexually assaulting his daughter. As a result of this abuse the daughter confided in her housekeeper and the housekeepers brother. The daughter conspired with the housekeeper and the housekeeper’s brother to arrange the homicide of her parents. I agree with
Looking out across the stone-paved road, she watched the neighborhood inside the coffee colored fence. It was very similar to hers, containing multiple cookie-cutter homes and an assortment of businesses, except no one was there was her color and no one in her neighborhood was their color. All of them had chocolate skin with eyes and hair that were all equally dark. Across the road to her right, a yellow fence contained honey colored people. She enjoyed seeing all the little, squinted almond eyes, much smaller then her own, which were wide set and round. One little, sunshine colored boy with dark straight hair raised his arm and waved his hand, but before she could do the same back her father called her into the house. Barney finds it strange when Manny always picks Monya, Zena always picks Zulma, and Joe always picks Jrlb. Barney and his curious self go lurking around Zena’s underwear drawer, where Barney finds a document written by the same Captain who built Barney’s parents vacation home, explaining the cause of the captain's brother ending up insane. When the captain rescued a man at sea with an odd appearance, his brother thinks that the man was the devil himself, resulting in strangling “the devil”. His punishment is being keelhauled, or being thrown under the vessel and drowning, although the brother survived, his brain was left damaged due to lack of oxygen, and spends the rest of his life locked up in what now is Barney’s room, explaining the patterns scratched on the windows and walls in Barney’s room. When Barney takes a close look at the patterns on the window, he sees what appears to be the piggy. Barney realizes that the game is not just a game but is actually real life. His neighbors are actually aliens in disguise, the timer for the planets to blow up is running, and every person wants the piggy
Mrs. Mallard is sad, when Richards tells her that her husband has been “kill”, but when she is by herself she realize that she is free. She is happy and she stars murmuring to herself about the body and the soul being free. There are three older boys, Ralph, Jack, and Piggy, that have an effect on the group of younger boys. The Main character Ralph, changes throughout the novel because of his role of leadership and responsibility, which shapes him into a more strict but caring character as the group becomes more uncivilized and savage. At the beginning of the story, after the plane crashed on the island and the boys are accounted for, Ralph feels very free and absent. He finds a lagoon with warm water, and just like any other twelve year old boy, he goes for recreational swimming. Whizzoh!
Mrs. Mallard was at first overjoyed with freedom because her husband was supposedly “dead,” yet at the end of the story, Mrs. Mallard comes face to face with Mr. Mallard. A whole new wave of emotions overcame Mrs. Mallard as she laid eyes on her husband instantly killing her from “a heart disease-of joy that kills.” It is ironic how Mrs. Mallard is overjoyed about her husband’s death, and she ended up dying because she found out he was alive instead. The strong internal defenses present in healthy individuals usually protect the body and lungs from these invading bacteria. Pneumonia in the elderly is something that needs to be taken very seriously in this day and age. According to the Center Of Disease Control, statistics say that over 800 million seniors above the age of 65 are at risk for pneumonia. They also say that 1 out of 20 adults that get pneumonia die. What is pneumonia? “Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that can be caused by fungi, virus, bacteria, and many other germs,” says Dr. Norman Edelman, the chief medical officer for the American Lung Association. What this infection causes is inflammation of the lungs; more specifically, this is inflammation of the alveoli which results in fluid in the alveoli sacs. The alveoli is where the oxygen transfer to the blood takes place, so with the inflammation, it makes it hard for the individual to breath or do any physical activity. In the middle of a war a group of British schoolboys are being evacuated, they are shot down over a deserted island. The first two boys we meet Ralph and Piggy find their way to the beach where they find a conch shell. They use the shell to summon all the other boys on the island to the beach. He has the boys democratically elect a leader which turns out to be him and appoints Jack the leader of a the choir into the second in command and in charge of hunting. Ralph, Jack, and Simon go out and explore the island to confirm that it is infact an island. Ralph gets the idea in order to be rescued we must light a signal fire and appoints Jack in control of that. They use Piggy’s glasses to ignite the blaze but upon their success they forgot to monitor the fire, which quickly became out of control and set part of the forest on fire. Ralph being the leader tries to get the boys to stop wasting the day away playing games and swimming and build shelter and monitor the fire. Jack becomes obsessed with hunting and begins to neglect the fire. One day a ship passes by on the horizon, Piggy and Ralph look up and realize the signal fire is not lit because the hunters neglected it. Ralph scolds Jack and the hunters for their negligence but the hunters had gotten their first kill and were wrapped up in some sort of ritual.
