Interpersonal communication is the process in which people exchange information, feelings, and meaning through verbal and non-verbal messages. Nonverbal communication includes body movements or gestures, email, or any other gesture that isn’t physically spoken. Interpersonal information is used on a day to day basis. This type of communication will be used in professional environments such as work and in leisure conversation. Unfortunately, these skills doesn’t come naturally to everyone. Some people really have to work hard on developing interpersonal communication skills. Luckily, these skills are learnable and adaptable. A person can focus on the weaker skill and try to incorporate it into their everyday life. “Interpersonal communication is not just about what is actually said - the language used - but how it is said and the non-verbal messages sent through tone of voice, facial expressions, gestures and body language” (2011 - 2015 SkillsYouNeed.com)
A person’s interpersonal skills are formed through many different communication techniques. One type of communication is verbal. Nonverbal communication is communication not physically spoken. A person expresses themselves with gestures or facial expressions and this type of communication is what a lot of people pay attention to. People are able to tell how someone really feels about the subject they are speaking about with nonverbal communication. For example, if a doctor asks a patient if they are in any pain and the patient grimaces as they grab their arm and reply no then the doctor knows they aren’t being truthful.
