Statement of Purpose
Aristotle once said, “ We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." This quote serves many purposes in life for me, but in the realm of education, it serves only one purpose, striving for excellence. For this reason, failure is an ominous cloud that looms over my head constantly reminding me to never give up, but, to try harder. It encourages me to succeed in all aspects of my life because I know that only I can determine whether or not I will be successful in the future. As an international student from Saudi Arabia (SA), I have overcome many barriers to be where I am at today and I hope to further myself with the tools of knowledge in the field of Biochemistry from your institution for higher education.
I graduated from the Umm A-Qura University (UQU) in 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Laboratory Medicine. During my time at UQU, I was enrolled in an intensive program from the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences studying the theoretical and practical backgrounds of courses within the domain of medical laboratory science that involves Biochemistry. My patience and determination to learn science paid off when I graduated from UQU by leading a research group of three colleagues with a thesis in "The Prevalence of Anti-Hepatitis E Virus Antibodies Among Male Blood Donors." Besides the classroom knowledge, I was able to put theory into practice during my one year internship at the Hospital of King Abdulaziz Medical City-National Guard Health Affairs, where I learned more technical and manual skills in the Biochemistry Lab.
After graduating from UQU, I worked as a Teaching Assistant (TA) in the Biochemistry Department at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences in SA....

To conclude, I chose UCSD as my first choice school because of the renowned reputation in the field of science and the breakthroughs that it has achieved. I have always admired and respected UCSD for its merit in education and quality it provides in learning. The ability to be self-motivated is a quality that speaks for itself. For that matter, I am the right graduate candidate for your institution because of my passion and love of learning as well as my motivation to create changes in the world of science. I am more than prepared to embark in a journey that will push me to my limits. Moreover, I know I will fall many times in learning, but I will also get up from those falls and learn not to fall again.
