However, the language issues identified are not necessarily connected to discrimination or homesickness. In addition, students have issues with discrimination from domestic students, faculty, and police, which is another issue that negatively affects students’ experience while studying in the US. Finally, the group participation approach that many universities employ as a continuous intervention to improve retention has a slight positive effect on student’s future decisions. This points to the validity of Seidman’s (2012) theory concerning retention and improvement of student’s desire to persist at their current university.

Most research is limited to a few dissertations (such as this one) and a handful of articles in journals with very few recent books dedicated to the subject (Andrade & Evans, 2009). These circumstances indicate a lack of concern with international students and their experiences. At some recent conferences, the researcher and colleagues were informed that most institutions are not concerned with international students as they are attracting a similar number of international students as in the past and many individual administrators are afraid of turning the discussion into one of international students as stimulus plans (Altbach & Peterson, 1998). Therefore, designing the study was complicated by a lack of information concerning international students.
