The practice of using inter-professional teams in delivering care is not a new concept but current health policy requires professionals work within a multidisciplinary team Department of Health (2001) and entrenched in the Nursing and Midwifery Council (2008) Code. The principle focus of this essay is to discuss the importance of inter-professional collaboration in delivering effective health care and what challenges and constraints exist. The integration of a case study will give an insight into inter-professional collaboration in practice.
One of the largest, most recognizable, and famed statues in Egypt is The Great Sphinx of Giza. It is one of the many ancient monuments of Egyptian culture. The statue, carved from limestone, stands 66 feet in height, 63 feet wide, and 238 feet long. The giant statue overlooks the city of Giza, which is only a short drive away from the monument. The massive statue models a ginormous lion body, with a human pharaoh head. The Sphinx was carved out of limestone in the Giza plateau during the reign of King Khafre (2558-2532 BCE.) Khafre reigned during the time of Old Kingdom of Egypt (c. 2613-2181.) Although that is when most think it was built, there is some speculation among some Egyptologists. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (King James Version, Rom. 3.38 ). This Bible verse appears to encompass Nathaniel Hawthorne’s short story “The Minister’s Black Veil”. As with many of his works, Hawthorne draws from his puritan heritage and New England childhood. The setting is in a small puritan village by the name of Milferd. The main character, Reverend Hooper, appears one Sunday with a black veil completely covering his face. Thereafter, he never takes it off, despite gossip and judgement from his parish. Inspiration for this parable stems from Hawthorne knowledge of a man that accidentally murdered his friend, and thereafter wore a black veil. Despite this, there is not a defined reason that is given as to why the main character of this story makes the same decision. This is because the concentration of the story is not on why the minister wears the veil, but rather what the veil represents. “The Minister’s Black Veil” is meant to be a parable to teach the theme that all have sinned. Through analyzing this short story, it can be seen how he extends this relentless motif through symbolism, characters and irony.
Based on geological considerations by Lubicz Schwaller and supported by Schoch Robert, the extreme erosion exhibited on the Great Sphinx’s body could not be a result of pure sand and water as it has been assumed by most geologists worldwide rather it was because of water. Geologists also confirm that Egypt in the distant past was mostly subjected to intense flooding. Furthermore, wind erosion cannot occur if the body of the Great Sphinx is covered up in sand, which has been its condition for almost five thousand years since its construction. If the wind was responsible for its erosion, then similar effects should be expected in other monuments in Egypt that were constructed using similar materials as that of the Great Sphinx. As a matter of fact, the structures, which were constructed using similar materials, have been exposed to the blowing of sand by wind though they do not exhibit minimal effects of wind erosion as the sand only did minimal scouring and cleaning of the stones. The Great Sphinx of Giza is an extremely impressive piece of limestone architecture that is still standing to this day. The Sphinx is located in front of Khafre's pyramid facing the East in the Giza Plateau located near the Nile River in Giza, Egypt. The formation of the Sphinx is commonly debated but some say that it was built around 2500 BC for the great pharaoh Khafre who had made the second pyramid out of the three. The mythical creature has a lion body but the face is a sculpture of human, Khafre. It’s approximately “[...] 240 feet in length and 66 feet in height” (Suhr). The great height was served as a closer connection to Re, who is the god of the sun. The Sphinx would connect the people of Egypt and the gods with the belief that the Pharaoh would encase the connection between the “[...] heavens and the laws of nature” (Suhr). The Egyptian people would use this as a medium to connect themselves closer with the rest of the gods and in the afterlife.
I found O’ Brien’s speech to be extremely educational as well as entertaining. He used his profession as a comedian to incorporate pathos (humor), which positively affected the graduates. “When I got the call two months ago to be your speaker, I decided to prepare with the same intensity many of you have devoted to an important term paper. So late last night, I began (O’Brien, 2011)”. O’Brien is making a joke, based on the common stereotype that college students procrastinate on papers till the day before the deadline. “Behind me sits a highly admired President of the United States and decorated war hero while I, a cable television talk show host, have been chosen to stand here and impart wisdom. I pray I never witness a more damning example of what is wrong with America today (O’Brien, 2011).” O’Brien regularly uses humbling humor that supports the delivery of his speech. O’ Brien portrays himself as humble because he feels as if he isn’t worthy of giving a commencement speech due former president Bush, a decorated war hero was sitting behind him. O’Brien seems puzzled that they choose a television comedian, over a president and war hero because he is arguably much more qualified and respected. The motivation to pursue Medicine as a career is frequently presented as a few typical clichés. Some say “I’ve always known that Medicine was the career for me.” While others tout “I was often sick as a child” thus “the hospital was an integral part of my life” while others use the typical “Dr. _______ changed my life and I always wanted to be just like him/ her”. While some these things ring true of my own life experience, there were numerous, sometimes unrelated factors, that have influenced my decision and fueled my desire to pursue Medicine. However, I am particularly drawn to Internal Medicine because of its complex problem solving opportunities, emphasis on team centered care, and the never-ending learning opportunities it affords.
One day on the way to a meeting, Mr.hooper is wearing a black veil and the people are quick to judge. As mr. hooper is preaching the author mentions how “the pale faced congregations was almost as fearful a sight to the minister, as his black veil to them”(409). The black veil on the minister displays his secret sin. Although the veil makes him more powerful as a preacher many people didn 't like it including his wife. After a while Elizabeth asks his husband mr.hooper to remove the veil and he refuses, so “she withdrew her arm from his grasp and slowly departed’(413). Just like that the long relationship between Mr.hooper and Elizabeth wes terminated because of hooper 's black veil. After that one moment no one questioned his black veil and he went on to become a powerful clergymen until the day of his death. When the day comes mr.hooper is insulted for not wanting to remove the veil and hooper responds “Men avoided me, and women shown pity, and children screamed and fled only for my black veil?”(415). Mr.hooper unfolds that the people are quick to judge and avoid him just for wearing a black veil.
