Leadership to me is not a skill that can be learned but is innate. My personal definition of leadership is someone that has the natural ability to be a true leader and doesn’t acquire learning leadership skills. I believe a leader has the influence and ability to inspire others to pursue the leader’s vision to the degree that it becomes a shared effort, a shared vision, and a shared success. Consequently, effective leadership is a trait you are born with. To a certain extent, I consider leaders are born with the desire to lead exceptionally well and the ability to be open to learning from their mistakes and predominantly to learn from other individuals they are trying to lead.
There are several characteristics that are valuable to an organization. They must understand the environment internally and externally so that their creativity level is positively impacted by this knowledge. They must also be a visionary so that they can lead their business into the future, so they are constantly evolving. An organization must be flexible and know how to select good managers that will oversee their business so that they are free to work on their vision. Some of the best ideas will come from those who are in the business daily and any organization who wants to be a success must welcome the ideas of those they trust to manage their businesses.
Research and Reflection Management fundamentals are an interesting topic as it covers such a wide range of business basics. Leadership and communication are two of the most important of the management components because if they are executed well, they will create the culture of the company. Personalities, teamwork, motivation and decision-making are all fundamentally important to business but they can be easily managed with a strong leadership team and a well-defined culture. Followers tend to be characterized by someone who is given information and direction with the task of processing or completing an assignment with pre-planed productive results, they are the one who put the plan into action and create the results. Both positions are essential for success and completely dependent on each other, but is one more important than the other? In a business organization, a leadership role is often characterized by a person who has the core ability to plan, implement, delegate, oversee, influence, and empower other employees toward a specific company goal. The character of a strong leader should have dominant personality traits to execute taught skill sets. For someone to take on a leading title they must not only be capable of taking on highly important responsibilities, but on average a successful leader is only eligible for the task when they can also easily influence others to follower their direction.
In the work place there will always be someone whom you will not get along with. It is very important for an effective follower to deal with these people while still remaining an effective worker; "Good followers learn how to get along with those who have differences while not ignoring those differences" (Moran, 2014). For example, if a coworker has different beliefs than you, it is important to be able to respect those beliefs enough to avoid any altercation that would diminish the productivity of both workers. Another example would be to play peacemaker during co-worker fights and arguments, normal workers would either get involved in the argument or completely avoid it all together, however an effective follower would deal with it differently. An effective follower would not take a side and do anything possible to break it up and have co-workers return to their job.
