Integrative studies is when you combine two or more perspectives to help you solve a complex problem. Marcus Tanner defines integrative studies as “providing for a synthesis of study and life, an application of interdisciplinary to complex problems” (Tanner, 2016, p. 4). You are combining all the knowledge you have gained from your studies and all your life experiences to find the best solution to the problems you face. I feel that Integrative studies was greatly beneficially to me because it will allow me to move from one industry to a completely different industry without little worry. I don’t want to be tied down to just one profession in the future, I want to be able to completely switch profession without a moment’s notice and not struggle …show more content…

When it came to my first two areas of concentration it was a no brainer, coming from mechanical engineering I had already completed all classes needed for engineering and needed just one more for math so I picked those two. However, the third integrative studies was recommended to by the university studies advisor. I’d never heard of integrative studies before so I was a little skeptical about taking the course, but she explained to me that taking integrative studies would make be more effective in the workplace because it would show me to combine engineering and business I’m getting a minor in, to solve complex problems. To me math is integrated into engineering, every engineering class that I ever took used math as the base and then built on it with engineering concepts. I feel that you can’t be a good engineer if you don’t enjoy math as well. In a way, I consider business to be my unofficial fourth area of concentration because I’m taking the same classes I would be taking if I had chosen it as one of my official concentrations. I feel that in today’s society, not only should you know how to do your job, but also know how the company works and how what you’re doing affects the company as a whole. When you’re working as an engineer the people who you are constantly talking to about thing you need to get the job done are more than likely business majors. Their job is to help you get the job done …show more content…

I feel like the sun is the best renewable energy source out there and one of the most abundant. The main problem with solar energy is the cost, it’s way too expensive to produce solar energy because you need special material that can conduct the sun’s rays and turn it into to usable energy. Another problem with solar energy is storage, solar energy requires larger and extreme heavy batteries to store the energy. To help solve these problems I would need to look at it from the perspective of someone who understand materials and how they work. From this perspective, I’m able to develop and test new materials that are much more cost effective while being able to draw in more solar energy than before. I could also develop lighter material to be used in the batteries that store solar energy making it easier to install in family homes. From the perspective of someone who works in aerospace I would research how to build a spaceship with a massive foldable solar panel on top of it. I would then have the spaceship be flown close to the sun and open the solar panel which collect strong rays directly from the sun. The solar panel would then fill batteries on the spaceship and would be then be taken to earth by another ship creating a cycle of endless renewable
