Scientific Realism is the view that the world that science identifies is the only true reality. This is entirely independent of what we may view as real. For instance, a divine deity in America is God. To some here, he is Yahweh. To others, he is a she named Venus, Lilith, the Sacred Feminine, etc. In other parts of the world, this creator being is Allah. In others he is Jehovah, Krishna, Ra, etc. This is not only true regionally, but chronologically as well.
However, in America 2+2=4, in India 2+2=4, and on the moon 2+2=4. 2+2=4 no matter where you are in space and time, and it is a simple concept that even a small child with no linguistic skill can understand. This small truth transcends all religious and ideological differences.

In fact, it has been at times, and for good reason. However, there is still a very troubling problem with Instrumentalism. The logical process used to justify the importance of Theories with “mysterious” qualities can easily be used to justify any form of metaphysical belief and pseudoscience. Creation “Science” is a perfect example of this. They insist that creation is a scientific theory when it is not. These same institutions that would pervert the logic of Instrumentalism can use Realistic logic to disqualify facts that are in contrast to their beliefs by saying things like, “It’s just a theory. It is not true because there are still thing about said phenomenon that science can’t explain.”
So then, which is a more favorable approach to scientific truth, Realism or Instrumentalism?
In my opinion, it is Realism that keeps us from introducing mystery and occult lore into our pursuit of scientific knowledge. But, one cannot ignore the unexplained phenomena even though we know some to be true purely by axiomatic accounts. Instrumentalism reconciles this but at the cost of accepting the unknown as occult, at least from current understanding, and therefore allowing for any school of thought to pervert Instrumentalist logic to conserve and justify their beliefs.
