Input Devices
Any input device is any hardware device that sends data to the computer. Without any input devices, a computer would only be a display device and not allow users to interact with it. (Input Device). A couple examples are barcode reader, scanner, keyboard, and even a finger if you’re using it for a touchscreen. Drives such as CD-ROM, DVD, and a floppy disk may be capable of sending the computer information, but they are not input devices. These are considered storage devices. Any information or data that’s entered or sent to the computer to be processed is considered input and anything that is displayed from the computer is output (Input Device). Without input devices, a computer is a brain with nothing to think about. But combined with memory and processing power, they make computers some of the most valuable pieces of equipment in our lives (Perez).
A keyboard is defined as an external input device used to type data into some sort of computer system whether it be a mobile device, a personal computer, or another electronic machine (Business Dictionary). A keyboard ususally includes alphabetic, numerical, and common symbols used in everday transcription (Business Dictionary). There are three diffent keyboard layouts; QWERTY, AZERTY, and Dvorak (Hardware - Input Devices). Beyond standard typing, keyboards have a numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard. Most of today’s desktop keyboards are enhanced. Enhanced meaning having 12 or more funtions along the top and a set of arrow and additional keys between the typing area and numeric keypad. Function keys are special keys programmed to issue instructions to a computer such as media controls internet controls (Shelly and Vermaat).

These devices are attached to the motherboard through different connections. The output devices like monitors and printers can be used by a file server to show different files or print hard copies of files. These devices take the data from the computer and put it into a format that users can read and understand. I would like to take a moment here and go over the different kinds of monitors that a person can use as an output device. The first is the regular CRT monitors are heavy and use a lot of electric power to display objects, but are preferred by graphical artist for the color rendition. Then there are the flat panel monitors, which can use liquid Crystal Display (LCD) or a plasma display. These displays use electronically at each pixel to control the color. The input devices like a keyboards and a mouse. These inputs take the movements from the users and turn it into data that the computer can understand. (Beach,
I use the keyboard to be able to type it, the mouse to be able to point on the screen and click or access my data by using the mouse arrow. USB to be able to save my data, edit it later and allow me to organise my files for example to create folders and sub-folders for my files.
Technology has always been at the forefront of the world’s mind, for as long as anyone can remember. The idea of “advancing” has been a consistent goal among developers. However, recently the invention of smartphones broke out into the world of technology, causing millions of people to become encapsulated in a world of knowledge at their fingertips. Jean Twenge elaborates on the impacts of the smartphone on the younger generation in her article “Has the Smartphone Destroyed a Generation?” Twenge’s article is just a sliver of the analysis that she presents in her book “IGen.” Twenge, a professor of psychology at San
About a month ago I attended a dinner with some close friends. As we all sat in the restaurant waiting for drink orders to be taken, I looked around the table and what I saw made me feel more than a little annoyed considering I had not seen some of these people (or spoken to some of them) in over a month. Everyone at the table had sat down and immediately took out their phone. After reading the article “Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?”, by Jean M. Twenge, the feelings experienced that evening at dinner were validated and broadened by the depth and scope of the article. Jean Twenge was persuasive because of the statistical data in her article.
The phrase “digital divide” illustrates the fact that the world can be divide into people who do and people who do not have access to and/or the capability to use modern-day information technology, such as the telephone and the Internet. For instance, “78.6 percent of North America’s residents were Internet users, but only 13.5 percent of Africa’s population had this capability.” (Volti 2014). There have been attempts to close this opening of the digital divide by bringing reasonably priced mobile phones to these people and countries with limited access. For example, “in Africa are even able to use their phones as mobile banks that allows them to store money, transfer funds, and pay bills.” (Volti 2014).
Keyboards are one of the most important input devices for a computer. They serve as your primary means of communication with your computer. Most keyboards have an ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) layout, which includes a numeric keypad, special function keys, special control keys, as well as typing keys. The typing keys are just the keys containing the twenty-six letters of the alphabet. These keys have a QWERTY setup. QWERTY stands for the first six letters in the top row of the standard letter keys. It was designed so that the most commonly used letters would not be near each other. There are also other parts to the keyboard such as the numeric keypad, the function keys, and the control keys. The numeric keys are a group of 17 keys located on the right of your keyboard that includes all of the numbers from 0-9, a plus sign, a minus sign, and other assorted keys. Since many computers are used for business purposes and to input numbers into a computer, the numeric keypad was designed which made it easier and faster to input numbers. The control keys are intricate keys like del (delete), ctrl (control), alt (alternate), shift, and enter. The delete (or backspace) key is used to erase characters in a document. The esc (escape) key is normally used to exit out of a program or application, while when you strike the enter key, a task or command is carried out. The tab key is primarily used to indent in a document. The shift key is often used in combination with other keys. Lastly, there are the ctrl and alt keys. Like the shift key, these are also used in combination with other keys, and they typically perform functions related to those of the function keys.

“Sounds like an opportunity for smartness-but only if we choose to take it.” (Weinberger 23) This quote is capable of summarizing all benefits and disadvantages of smart phones. It has already been proven above how drastically smart phones can help society. However, this can only happen if we choose to use it correctly. The truth is that without smart phones, the world would be far worse off than it is now. If we didn’t have an improved method of communication, be it E-mail, calling, etc., then international diplomacy would be even worse than it is now and we would likely be in the middle of world war

Input buffer- also called input block, is a part of memory in a computer that temporarily holds all incoming data as it awaits to be processed in the CPU.
Technology in the twentieth century is quickly evolving, through rapidly changing innovations. Although, the term “modern technology” is often associated with present day, “modern technology” has quickly become obsolete in a matter of months. Furthermore, the evolution of computer components has become more hi-tech, offering more up-to-date hardware to be used in our everyday life. A keyboard is a piece of computer hardware comprised of a set of keys similar to a typewriter. Although, additional keys are offered to the computer keyboard; standard keyboard entries are imputed in QUERTY format. Keyboards are the driving force of data entry in computers; alongside the innovative speak to text device and scanner. Advanced keyboards have developed wireless capability that allows use from a distance. The modern technological development of the laser projection keyboard has offered access to mobile devices (smart phones, tablets etc.), provides enhanced user convenience, and has opened the door to further developments in technology and data input.
