THESIS: To inform my audience about some of the many effects media has on our everyday lives.

INTRODUCTION:
I. Out of the 7.2 billion people on our planet, over three billion are active internet users. About two billion have social media accounts, and about three billion people have mobile access to the internet via smartphones and tablets. These statistics give us an idea about how much we truly rely on media and how it affects the way we live.
a. Being a part of the younger generation and having so much access to the media, it is a very important too in our lives. We are constantly using media whether we are watching TV, researching for a school paper, or looking at Twitter and Instagram because we are simply bored.

There is a huge lack of privacy in our day and age due to the media. Everytime we subscribe to newsletters, emails or even just loading a website, we are opening the doors to allow someone to be able to track information. We can simply type in someone’s name on Google and can sometimes instantly find out their home address and even sometimes their phone number. ii. By updating statuses on Facebook, tweeting, and instagramming important milestones in our lives, we are opening ourselves to the world and letting people who don’t even know us see these things about us. These days with the amount of media and technology that is out there in the world, there is not really that line of privacy anymore when it comes to media and what we put on the internet.
c. Decreased Productivity
i. By constantly having access to the internet with our cell phones and laptops, we are always fighting that battle of getting distracted from what we are actually doing. ii. Media has decreased people’s productivity at work and at schools. Certain businesses and schools have blocked certain websites so that their employees and students cannot access sites like Facebook and Twitter while they are supposed to be at work or at school.
