The American Dream The idea of “The American Dream” was founded by hard working immigrants looking for a new land of opportunity and prosperity. While many people all over the world have an idea of what this dream is, It can be broken down more specifically by the different generations and cultures that have come to the United States or grown to fulfill it. I consider “The American Dream” to be the pursuit of happiness, education, and success, and the equal opportunity that says anyone in the United States who works hard and applies themself can achieve those things. We still do not treat americans who prefer to practice a different religion fairly, and we just barely started to give people the right to choose their own sexuallity without being treated as a second class citizen. Do i believe the “American Dream” ever existed? Its hard to say. As america leads the worlds in gun violence, incarceration, college debt, deaths from poisonus highly promoted substances such as cigarettes and alcohol, its hard to say. One thing that i believe is certain is that “The Amrican Dream” will always be present, regardless of how hard times are or how grim the future looks. Americans have always come together during hard times for the better of the country and pushed passed adversity in order to overcome great hurdles, while focusing on this “American Dream”. One of my Favorite quotes that explains this is when Martin Luther King says in his speech “ With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day”(King
