Some professionals work in teams or use elaborate distraction scenarios. The crude professionals sometimes use force and fear much like gang intimidation and often commit grab-and-run thefts. Being a professional means that they steal merchandise for a living and like other trades, practice makes perfect. Thoughtful professionals are very difficult to stop in a society where retail stores openly display their merchandise. Shoplifters come in all shapes and sizes, ages and sexes, and vary in ethnic background, education, and economic status.
No matter where the shoplifting charge occurs, logically, the higher the dollar amount stolen the more severe the charge becomes (“Shoplifting”). In addition to the basic laws and regulations, there is also a civil law in every state that says that any person who is caught shoplifting or their parent/guardian if they are a minor could potentially be held civilly liable to the store that they have stolen from. David Goguen, a Criminal Defense Lawyer, explains this process in his article “Shoplifting
These acts are devasting in many ways. First, these individuals who shoplift do so not because of financial need, but because of peer and personal pressures and because they couldnt just wait a few days. Second, juvenile shoplifters that remain uncaught often get into more serious crimes. One of the main consequences of shoplifting is the merchants. Shoplifting affects both large and small businesses alike.
Shoplifting is also a very addicting activity because it’s a rush for the people that do it. Shoplifting can start out with something small like a keychain but then it keeps getting worse as one keeps stealing bigger things like money and electronics. When a young kid gets involved with gang activity their personality changes in a bad way. Now that the young gang member is part of some kind of illegal crimes their personality changes because they feel unstoppable. These young kids feel invincible, almost as if nobody can stand in their way, which can be a big problem to the people who stand in their way.
Shoplifting is a major problem in today. The temptation of not paying for something, just hiding it away and saving your own money is a large factor for some people. The culprit just thinks he's getting a product for free and doesn't know what he's actually doing to himself and the community. Shoplifting effects everyone, yourself and the everyone in the local neighborhood. In this essay I'm going to explain some of the circumstances of stealing from local stores, or any store. After I've been caught stealing I found out how wrong it is and how it is a disadvantage to everyone.

If family members start to complain of the purchases, they will often hide the things they buy. Compulsive shoppers often are in denial about their problem. Because they cannot pay their bills their credit rating suffers, and they may have collecting agencies coming to get what is owed to them. This will lead to many social and relationship problems.
The security issue that I decided to pick to discuss throughout this paper, would be the growing epidemic of shoplifting. The security issues would affect the retail security portion of this assignment. You would be surprise how shoplifting has become such a big issue. The times are hard around the world, some people just don’t have the funds to provide for their kids and family. Some people seek shoplifting for the adrenal rush it gives some people.
Also, facilities, such as parks and public rest rooms which everyone in the community uses, become vandalized. Vandalism affects your pocketbook too. People pay their taxes for a reason, to build a better community for the future generation. When the community is vandalized, the people are the ones who have to pay for someone else’s damage. Vandalism is still and will always be a growing problem unless we do something about it.
