Skiing. It's a popular sport that many people know today as either cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing, backcountry skiing, ski jumping, etc. There are many different categories skiing can fall under, but i’ll just be talking about recreational skiing which, is the kind you do for fun. Recreational skiing is a sport that just about anyone can do after a few lessons. In modern times there are four main levels of skiing each with their own unique obstacles and skiers. Green circle, beginner trails, blue square, more average trails, black diamond, hard trails, and double black diamond, an exceedingly hard course. “The first ever skis were made to transport goods over 4,500 years ago in Russia mid-winter, these first skis weren't meant for speed, but to keep the rider up and out of the snow”. If you’ve read The Brave Ski Mom for any duration of time, you’ve probably observed that our whole family wears helmets: ski helmets, bike helmets, hockey helmets, lacrosse helmets and helmets while skateboarding. If we climbed, we’d wear helmets then, too. We LOVE helmets.
Next, take a few steps up a slight incline with your front foot in the snowboard binding and your back foot out. Make sure that the snowboard is perpendicular to the incline. Take one step with your foot that is not attached to the snowboard, then lift your foot with the snowboard attached to it and take a step with the entire snowboard. Keep taking baby steps until you are up an incline. The process can become tiring after a while, but for beginners the ski-lift is not quite recommended at this point. You should be looking for beginner slopes with a very small incline.
This sport has to do with geography because it is a very small section in one of the two main branches of geography. The two main branches of geography are human and physical, this would be under human. Under the human branch would be many smaller branches that go into even smaller branches. This sport would be under the culture branch of the human branch because, it is part of the Olympics, and the Olympics is a cultural event where many of the world’s countries come together and they participate in multiple events/sports with each other.

Pieter and I were determined to become proficient water skiers, while Rhea had knee issues that limited her participation. A few winters ago, some friends invited my family and me to go snow skiing at Paoli Peaks, Indiana. I did not know how to snow ski, and I leaped at the thought of trying this new sport. On the first morning we entered the pro shop to rent all the gear and make decisions about whether or not to take lessons or go it alone. We decided to be adventurous and go it alone—no lessons. Kent and Celeste, the friends who invited us, knew how to ski and snowboard. He assured us that he could show us the basics, and we would be on our way down the slopes. There are similarities on and off the mountain as well as major differences. Snowboarding was influenced in the beginning by skiing and it is now growing rapidly. Skiing has been taking part in the boarding culture to regain some ground hey lost to the boarding craze. This culture will be shown through a comparison in a “Battle of the Mountain.”
Skiing and snowboarding are two very different sports, that have evolved and morphed together to define an entire global industry and are now tantamount as salt and pepper. Skiing was popularized decades before the conception of snowboarding however, snowboarding was conceptualized in part, by skiing. Skiing became a mainstay when it was introduced to the Olympics, it quickly grew to dominate winter sports all over the world. The world was shocked when snowboarding made its way onto the Olympics roster and was perplexed by the influence it carried. The two sports were at war from the beginning, clashing in every possible way. As skiing and snowboarding grew and evolved, so did the winter sports industry. These sports spawned a new generation of athletes, with new trends and ideas, which have completely resuscitated the snow sports industry.
These elements must make the sport enjoyable to all involved at many levels, to provide basic leisure, to test one's abilities and to develop the individual's mental and physical boundaries.
