Tyler Ogden Mr. Wiley English 4 4/8/2016 Motocross Motocross has been a pastime for many people around the world. Even spectators get the thrill of watching the riders do their magic. No matter what you're doing whether it's spectating or riding your guaranteed a good amount of adrenaline. I want to explain to you how it got started and what it's like now. The earliest motorcycles were little more than bicycles with small 49cc engines attached. When people began to race with motorcycles, sometimes they even used the tracks built for bicycle racing. In the earliest days of the century, manufacturers entered their motorcycles in competitive events to show the world their brand and prove their performance and durability just as they still do today. …show more content…
Endurance trials were run over both roads and rough terrain and would sometimes cover hundreds of miles over periods as long as two to six days. Early hill climbs were not like the bumpity bump events on short, steep hills we see in America today, but were usually over a long road winding up a big mountainside, sometimes for several miles. While all types of early motorcycle competition emphasized both vehicle performance and rider ability. One of the earliest of these was the Scott Trial, sponsored by the designer of the Scott motorcycle Alfred Scott. While top speed was not the objective of the event a time limit was thrown in pushing participants to move from one observed section to the next, where their ability to overcome obstacles was judged and scored. The winner was the rider who completed the course in the shortest period of time and with the fewest mistakes. The birth of the dirt bike boomed big in 1954 but that doesn't mean that there were some
As Albert Einstein once stated, “ Anyone who has never made a mistake in life has never tried anything new.” As a way to expand my horizons, I, Edwin Montalvo, believe that I would be a valuable member of McGarvin’s pentathlon team. Based on my background knowledge on pentathlon, the use of additional information on various subjects is always essential towards the academic learning. Because of this, I also strive to excel in all my classes, for it is a necessary component of a student and a pentathlete. In addition to knowing background information, I vary my time between academic education and physical education, creating a more balanced lifestyle for me. Furthermore, pentathlon brings a self-learning experience that contributes towards many essential attributes needed in the future, such as
Needless to say, that experience has changed over time. It began from a simplistic design in 1904 as a motorized bike. However, as time progressed it brought about the introduction of the biker gang era. These were the bad asses image riding their heavy bikes down the highway, rebels who refused to give in to society’s pressures. It was the time of the Hell’s Angels, with their patches, long hair, and untidy beards that became the symbol of freedom on the road. They created the mantra of the bad ass dude on a bad ass American bike and no one was gonna tell him what to
the shiners would soup of a car and use it to out run the cops. They ridge runners knew the back roads and mountain trails better then anyone. With the help of there cars and the knowledge of the labyrinth of roads the ridge runners began to out run the cops. This then started the bragging. Each ridge runner believed they were the fastest driver in the mountains. They began to have competions to see who was truly the fastest. One of the most famous drivers was a man by the name of Junior Johnson. He was a shiner who had been caught and had spent a year in prison. He got out of prison and went back into the fast money life sytle of running shine. In his prime he was considered the fastest man on the ridge. He later made his way to nascar in 1955 and went on to win over 50 races. He then retired in 1966. In 1933, Prohibition was repealed, however the shiners did not quit dtheir reckless ways, they contin...
Dirt track racing is exactly what is says; dirt racing is a type of auto-racing that takes place on an oval dirt track (“What Dirt?”). The National Dirt Racking Association was formed in 1978, by Mr. Robert Smawley. Smawley was born and raised in Kingsport, Tennessee. Smawley promoted his first race in Newport, Tennessee. He gave the winner (the first to finish the 100 lap race) $10,000 (“In”).
Cross country and track to an outsider, they can only be seen as running. Well, to a student of the sport they are both so much more. Runners are gathered to both, but there are plenty of variations between the two. Although I love both of these sports, if I had to side with one, I would choose track. These can commonly be seen in training, races, and people.
The Seagate Ultras on November 26, 1994, included races of 60 km, 50 miles, and 100 km, each run on the same 1.1 mile loop. There were approximately 10, 10, and 6 runners, respectively, in these races, which were judged separately. My 9:29 time for 100 km was not very fast, but it won that race easily, and I also went through 60 km and 50 miles faster than anyone in those races. So I am not a novice.
Arthur Davidson and William S. Harley were schoolmate friends that shared a mechanical passion and strong desire to join the other motorcycle pioneers. They rekindled their relationship while working at the same factory in Milwaukee. Together they began to study mechanics focusing on motorcycle engines. In 1901 they had four engines designed and ready to be fitted to bicycle frames. In 1903 the first Harley-Davidson motorcycles were built. The brand appeared in ads and articles describing the motorcycle that would become a legend. Three motorcycles were produced between 1903 and 1904 and were sold before they were even built. During this time Walter C. Davidson Sr. and William A. Davidson joined Arthur Davidson and William S.
As a teenager, he became interested in motorcycles. As a gift, his father purchased him a fire-red, Italian motorcycle. He sped everywhere on it and became the envy of his classmates. He soon began racing motorcycles, for many of the local factory owners had racing teams. He...

Harley-Davidson was founded in 1903 by four men in a wooden shed experimenting with the internal combustion engine. By the beginning of the'60s, HD had practically wiped out all of its domestic competitors. Its motorcycles were used by nearly every police department in America. This was soon to change.
To start off with some facts and information on a official 2stroke 125cc and 250cc race bike. The 2stroke dirt bike is a bike where the motor runs of a gas and oil mix where the gas and oil are mixed together in the gas tank. The dirt bike is also cooled by a radiator and coolant in the radiator. The coolant being antifreeze. The 2 stroke motor is a 2 cycle engine which means every 2 cycle of the engine there is 1 power stroke. The 2 stroke has a cylinder in which It has a two holes in the bottom of the cylinder when the piston comes down and the holes are opened the gases that were just burnt and exploded are pushed out of one hole by new air and new gases coming in through the other whole. Then the piston goes back up and closes the holes then compresses the air and the gas together then there is a spark from the sparkplug igniting the fuel and air mixer pushing the piston back down and restarting the cycle. Now this happened at and unbelievable rate. At 12,000 rpms the motor is spinning at 200 revolutions a second. So the motor is doing 200 of the cycles that I described to you above in 1 second. This ...

His first observation was when cyclist raced individually against the time. During the second observation, cyclist raced together without completion, and the third observation showed winners have faster times in the competitive race. Norman Triplett showed that bicyclist pedaled faster when they ride with other people. Another example is a group of employees giving a presentation about their proposal.
Obsessed with improving his invention, Harley began working on a design for a two-cylinder engine. After a false start in 1907, he perfected the model in 1909. The new engine, called a V-Twin, could propel a motorcycle at a lightning speed of 60 mph. thanks to the success of the V-twin, the company quickly developed a reputation for building reliable, fast motorcycles and by 1910, annual production rose to 3,200 machines.
To understand horseback riding, it is essential to look at the history of equines, the sport of horseback riding, and how to take care of a horse. Horseback riding can be traced back more than 15,000 years. The Romans used horses for chariot racing during Medieval Times. Jousting was another sport used during the Medieval Times. Thus consisted of horses running face to face and the
