Derek Jeter is a baseball player known for playing with the New York Yankees as their shortstop. Derek Jeter is also known as Jeter or “The Captain” played with The New York Yankees for 22 years during that time he helped the Yankees win several World Series. Jeter has won several awards while playing with the Yankees.
Derek Sanderson Jeter was born on June 26, 1974 in Pequannock, New Jersey. Derek is the eldest of his sister Sharlee Jeter. His parents are Dorothy and Charles Jeter. At age 4 Derek and family moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan so his father could pursue his Ph. D in Psychology from Western Michigan University. He spent his childhood growing up in Michigan. While attending High school at Kalamazoo central high School he got the chance to play basketball. Even though he played basketball his dream was to become a Shortstop for the New York Yankees and to play in Major League Baseball. During his last two years of High School he batted .500 and only struck out once during his senior year. In his High School career, he won several National Sport Awards. During the playoffs for World Series he made a play that would be perhaps the famous play of his career. Derek Jeter ran down an errant throw from outfield to and delivered “The Flip” to home plate to record an important out against the Oakland A’s. The following game a few weeks later Jeter hit a studding homerun in the 10th inning, scoring the winning run against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 4 of the World Series. After these amazing plays and hits he made during the World Series that year he earned the respects and admiration from players, fans, and coaches.
