Cancer has become a major noncommunicable disease around the world, and a very interesting topic. Many people die from it, one of those people being my grandfather. My dad’s dad died a couple years before I was born so I didn’t get to meet him. But I knew he was loved deeply by my big family, and the death was very sad. I decided to do this topic because it interests me, and I would like to learn more about it.
Cancer is very common and affects many Americans. Cancer is defined by
“uncontrollable growth of abnormal cells.” When these abnormal cells develop in your body, a tumor can grow. Sometimes tumors aren’t always cancerous. Tissue around it keeps it from spreading. They can still be dangerous if they put harmful pressure on organs or causes the …show more content…

If the tumor is cancerous, it spreads and creates more tumors in the body. It can occur anywhere in the body, and this creates many different types of cancer.
If a person has cancer, there are different ways to remove it. These treatment options depend on what stage of cancer the person is in. A couple treatment options are surgical removal, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and hormone therapy. These treatments can cause a person to get very sick too. Though these treatments are difficult, they can save people’s lives. When a person’s cancer is removed or controlled, they have entered remission, which means the symptoms have disappeared. If a person is in remission, they continued to get checked to make sure the cancer will not come back.
There are many ways that people can avoid this disease. By following certain health behaviors, you can help reduce your risk of developing cancer. By avoiding UV radiation, tobacco use and second hand smoke, taking precautions to avoid getting STDs, eating healthy, avoiding alcohol, getting regular physical activity, and maintain your weight are all very important ways to reduce the chance of getting cancer.
