Before start the discussion of how IT behave in small business, let us look at the definition of IT. IT ,short for "information technology", is a term that includes all forms of technology used to create, store, exchange, and use information in its various forms such as business data, voice conversations, still images, motion pictures, multimedia presentations, and other forms, including those not yet conceived. It's a convenient term for including both telephony and computer technology in the same word (Applegate). Technology, as the most powerful tool recently, driving "the information revolution." in the world.
The Internet, which is an important part of the information technology, can be dated to July 1961, when Leonard Kleinrock at MIT published the first paper on packet switching theory, and the first book on the subject in 1964. In late 1966 Roberts went to DARPA to develop the computer network concept and quickly put together his plan for the "ARPANET", publishing it in 1967. Then the APRANET grow to the Internet (Opfer). Now Internet are most used in communication, research, education, and financial transactions.
Information technology appeared in several subjects, such as science, architecture, security, and so on. Information technology can help solve complex problems is computing for business, medicine, science, and other fields. Information technology also offers more jobs to people. The computer support specialists is a job that provide help and advice to people and organizations using computer software or equipment. Database administrators use specialized software to store and organize data, such as financial information and customer shipping records. Software developers are the creative minds behind computer pr...

The internet was created to test new networking technologies developed to eventually aid the military. The Arpanet, advanced research projects agency network, became operational in 1968 after it was conceived by Leanard Roberts (Watrall, T101, 2/2). Ever since the Arpanet began in 1968, it grew exponentially in the number of connected users. Traffic and host population became too big for the network to maintain, due to the killer application known as email created in 1972. The outcry for a better way sparked the development of the NSFNet. The National Science Foundation Network replaced Arpanet, and ultimately had many positive effects. This early division of the internet spread its netw...
But investing heavily on IT could prove to be disastrous. A clear strategy should exist and management has to make sure that the infrastructure implemented does match with the requirements. In current scenario the technologies like data storage, data processing, and data transport is available to all and as a result of this technology is viewed more like commodity factors than an essential resource for planning strategies. This trend started because of the abundant availability of technology at moderate price. By looking at the potential of information technology, companies overlooked at the fact that; the potential value of any technology remains until it gives an edge over the rivals by bringing a change in the organization and by helping the organization to do something that others...
IT, "Information Technology", refers to anything related to computing technology, such as networking, hardware, software, Internet, or the people that work with these technologies. Many companies have IT departments for managing the computers, networks, and other technical areas of businesses. IT jobs include network administration, computer engineering, Web development, technical support, and many other related occupations. That means "IT" already highly overused, is here to stay.
What we know today as the Internet began as a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) project in 1969, which was designed to connect several research databases across the country. However, until the end of 1991, the advances were almost completely technical, as the goals set by those responsible in its growth were beyond what the hardware was capable of providing. In 1988, the Internet began to receive attention in the popular press, when the first documented computer virus was released at Cornell University. 1991 marked the beginning of the transition of the Internet as we know it today, with the National Science Foundation’s reinterpretation of its Acceptable Use Policy to allow for commercial traffic across its network, the development of the first graphic interfaces, the formation of the Internet Society, and the formation of ECHO (East Coast Hang Out), one of the first publicly available online communities.

Information communication technologies (ICT) have been to found to play a very vital role in the world of work. However in their mandate to play such role the information communication technologies have brought its own challenges such as lack of skills to operate them. These challenges inhibit them from playing their vital role in the work of work.

Information Technology (IT) is a foundation for conducting business today. It plays a critical role in increasing productivity of firms and entire nation. It is proven that firms who invested in IT have experienced continued growth in productivity and efficiency. Many companies' survival and even existence without use of IT is unimaginable. IT has become the largest component of capital investment for companies in the United States and many other countries.
The introduction of computers has given business an interesting upper hand by supplying companies with endlessly amounts of information. The Computer age, also known as, the Information age developed an environment of free flowing information. Between the years of 1949-1975, various technologies were created that would eventually be combined and become what is now known as the computer. This technology made way for the invention of the Internet which was not created by anyone one person. The internet was original developed as a way to view files and information on a server. Several individuals such as Larry G. Roberts who invented the first long distance computer networks to Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf who invented the Transmission Control Protocol which moves data on the modern Internet and many others developed contributing technology that would later become the internet. (Cerf and Kahn)
It all started in 1962, ahead of the discussion ‘Internet’. The globe’s many data processing machines are ancient and original, even though many people price scores concerning currency. People enjoy singular, or hardly any chiliad dispute of attractive gist consciousness, and supplying instructions are a great distance outside of simple. Furthermore, information in visible form ideas accomplished the telephone mark as something held and or owned exclusively. Although histrionical quadruple age elderly Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) denoting equivalence the U.S. Department of Defense, a forthcoming risk taker comes and, establish the preparation for what evolves into the ARPANET plus what we call the Internet today. Near 1992, this agenda deadlines and these events took place. The computer network is in possession of many heaps of hosts, the ARPANET have refrained to prevail, data processing machine exist significantly brisk, and system of connections frequency range exist a heap better.
As we can see, information technology will modify a company’s costs in any part of the value chain. The technology historical may bring effect on cost and is limited to activities in which repetitive information processing played a big role. These limits does not exist anymore, however even activities like assembly that mainly involve physical processing now have a large information-processing component. For example, Canon Company built a low-cost of copier installation process around materials-handling system and automated parts-selection. Installation workers have a container or bins that contain all the parts needed for the copier. The Canon’s success by this system is derives from the software that can controls the parts of inventory and
According to Senn (1998), Information Technology (IT) is contains three components, which are computers, communication and expertise. A combination of the three components creates opportunities for people and organization to become more productive, effective and generally successful without being separated. In general, Information Technology is the main player in the information era. The technology is used to access, store and distribute the information, especially the information in the digital form. Information Technology (IT) can support activities involving creation, storage, manipulating and communication of information, which are related methods, management and applications. Besides than that, In the 21st century has brought the information era, where it is continuing with the rapid pace computerized system being used in all types of sector, from medical and space exploration to education, such as banking and manufacturing sectors. The demand of Information Technology (IT) was increased due to the usage and development of many types of complex systems. According to Senn (1998), there are six features where to differentiate the information era from the Agricultural era and Industrial era:
Technology has a great influence on small businesses in a positive manner i.e. Managing small business requires half of the hard work as before, storage of large files, promotion of your product all over the place, payments anywhere you want and a lot more. These all are the result of the hard work of scientists that small business can compete with large businesses as well. Just a little effort and you can expand globally. Here are five technologies we will be studying:
Nowadays with the implementation of new emerging technologies, the way businesses keep this financial information has become computerised. At the moment businesses use computers with a computerised accounting system in order to perform many other new activities than what they were able to do in the past. Businesses can access financial information from different department in the organisation, access to the information through computers and find financial data very fast, being more efficient. (Beliss, 2013)
Advances in technology have changed businesses dramatically, in particular the communication and information technology that are conducted in firms, which changed the appearance and pace of businesses over the past few decades. ICT in particular, has evolved a lot over the past 30 years; important information can be stored in computers rather than being in drawers enabling information to be transferred at a greater volume and speed (Guy, 2009). ICT has also expanded various forms of telecommunications and workload conducted in businesses, internet examples of this include: e-mails can be used to communicate with others...
