Riordan Manufacturing is one of the global leaders in the field of plastic injection molding owned by Riordan Industries. The company employing 550 people with projected annual earnings of $46 million. The corporate headquarters and research and development are located in San Jose, CA. The various manufacturing plants are located in Albany, GA, Pontiac, MI and Hangzhou, China. The company customers include some of the top automotive manufactures, airplane manufactures. From the company financial statement shows that the company in a good position on the market but the profits needs to be increased. The profit margin is lower than the industry average for Riordan .This means that Riordan have to keep its costs low and maximize profits to meet with than other companies doing the same business. The company current asset to liability ratio (current ratio) is approximately 2.87, which means that the company has twice current assets to the current liabilities.
By examining the riordan system many gaps was found and Many of improvements that can take place to the current systems and subsystem to provide increase in the benefits and skills and production line.
Taking a look at the current system for the finance and accounting riordan stated that each location has its own F and A system which report back to San Jose. The F and A Department have been unable to achieve anything remotely resembling “seamless compatibility.” Some F and A data is provided to corporate via data files; some data is provided via hardcopy reports and must be re-entered; some data is provided via data files but must be converted (redirected) to the proper account codes and the list goes on. Riordan will need to implement a new system to communicate effectively and remotely sharing of the files and reports. That will help riordan to have an updated in real-time reports instead of just waiting for the hardcopy.
By looking at riordan sales and marketing department, I noticed that riordan need many improvements to increase sales. As the world growing fast, customers expect high level of service and products that meet with today’s technology. Using the last IT technologies in marketing and sales would increase sales and profit for Riordan. Implementing new technology in marketing and advertisement is a must nowadays to attract the customers.
Employee motivation and rewards are effective means to retain employees. When an employee is motivated, his or her needs are being met. When an employee is unmotivated, his or her needs are not being met which results in a high employee attrition rate. Riordan Manufacturing is experiencing a high attrition rate. Riordan Manufacturing has 3 plants and employs 550 people. Recently, Riordan hired Human Capital Consulting to perform an analysis on the underlying issues that are causing the decreasing employee satisfaction and to recommend courses of action that will address the underlying issues. Research has been done to identify the issues and opportunities, the stakeholders and ethical dilemmas, and the end state vision. A gap analysis has also been performed to determine the gap between the current situation and the end state goals. Riordan Manufacturing will use this information to determine the best way to proceed towards improving its working environment for the employees.
In the past, college graduates would embark on careers in the business world with book learned business theory. Now the college curriculum can include practical use of real world situations in a web-paged virtual organization. This virtual organization allows students experience to review, analyze, troubleshoot and resolve real business problems. This paper will review the virtual company, Riordan Manufacturing, allowing students to review existing business systems, identify improvements or introduce new business systems to allow the company to thrive in the growing technology of the business world.
It has come to my attention that the functionality of my computer system is quite limited for the company’s day-to-day actions. It gives me great honor to propose, a new set of systems that will replace the dated systems that I currently use to complete my job. I am confident that these machines will allow me to think of new creative, ideas that will create new innovative marketing strategies for the company.
Although Riordan Manufacturing has a generic strategic direction, a comprehensive strategic plan reevaluation and development must occur after the move to China. Environmental scanning, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, evaluation, and control are fundamental to the creation of a strategic plan (Wheelen & Hunger, 2010). Because, strategic planning is integral to the corporate strategy and success of Riordan the board of directors' requesting Team B formulate a comprehensive strategic plan for their organization.
Continuous improvement (CI) refers to a philosophy consisting of improvement activities that increase successes and reduce failures in a production process (Bhuiyan & Baghel 2005, p. 761). It involves activities and processes that focus on continuous and incremental innovation (Bessant et al., 1994, p.17). CI is a new approach that enhances productivity, performance, and achieves competitive advantage needed in the highly competitive industries. It may also serve as a complementary approach to other quality improvement initiatives such as total quality management (TQM) (Pike, Barnes, & Barnes 1995, p. 23; Larson 2003; Lassen, Gertsen, & Riis 2006; Oakland 2007, p. 227). The purpose of this research is to explore the application of production systems engineering methods in the CI at manufacturing plants.
This research seeks to reveal the importance of marketing strategies in today’s complex and competitive business world. For this reason, this study will discuss various theories, issues and approaches of the marketing linking them with W.L. Gore & Associates and thereby propose the best options, ideas, strategies and techniques for the improvement of the company.
