Influence of the Battle of Vimy Ridge on Canada

Canadians created new and innovative tactics that made for a more efficient offensive line. Also, the battle resulted in Canada’s autonomy, nationalism, and patriotism that changed the course of Canadian history forever. The battle of Vimy Ridge is considered the defining moment for Canada as it emerged from under the shadow of Britain and for the first time, felt capable of greatness. A big reason behind Canadian victory at Vimy is due to the preparations made beforehand. To understand the demand for such intense preparations made by the Canadians, it is necessary to understand why this Battle was so significant.

Contrary to what any believe, the Battle of Vimy Ridge was more than “another bloodshed” to Canada as a nation. This battle confirmed Canada’s eligibility to participate on the world stage and that they are not to be trifled with by other nations. The accomplishments of the Canadian army brought respect from other countries to Canada. The Canadian army gained confidence in themselves after the victory at the battle Vimy Ridge The Battle of Vimy Ridge was significant to the growth of Canada as a nation. This was one of the final footsteps that led to the independence from Britain. In conclusion Canada gained independence because of a series of events that took place during the twentieth century. This can be seen by Canada’s success in the Battle of Atlantic, the Invasion of Italy and D-day. As a result, Canada was extremely prosperous at gaining autonomy during World War Two. During the early 1900s Canada was a newly developed country under British influence, lacking self identity and was ignored by the world superpowers. However, Canada began to change that by turning from isolationism to internationalism and started to grow into a respected world power. Canada became a well respected country for its involvement around the world and its influence on other countries. Also, Canada became renowned for its involvement in the Great War, World War II, the Korean War and their many peacekeeping missions. Canada’s world power first came into existence when they became involved in the Great War; this gave them recognition and with that they began to have major influences in the world.
