Parenting Style on Teen’s Behavior The Development of an adolescent is most significantly affected by the way how parents nurture and shape them. According to Morin (2016), a parent’s discipline approach, has a huge impact on the type of relationship they have with their children and how they will react on different situations. The various methods of disciplinary actions can even influence a child’s mood and temperament into adulthood. As stated by Baumrind (as cited in Cherry, 2016), there are four types of parenting namely authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved. The way they discipline and handle them has a big impact in the child’s outlook and aspirations in life. According to Drinkworth (2016), children who have parents involved in their life are more likely to positively act to situations. They will have minimized participation on dangerous cases like fighting, illegal drinking, and smoking. The way parents handle themselves also greatly affects a child’s decision in life. An optimistic parent is more likely to raise a child with a positive mindset (). Such mindset does not dismiss the negative. Instead, negativity is approached with the positive essence. As a teen grows up with this mindset, he/she will respond positively and appropriately to different kinds of situations. These decisions may also include the career they plan to take in the near future. As stated by Bettina Lankard (as cited in Vargas – Benitez, 2013), teens living happily with and seeing their family thriving due to a good career path are more likely to imitate the same path taken by their parents. However, it is not the same for those teens in the opposite situation – a teen who is lonely and sees that their family is financially struggling.
