The ultimate goal of maintenance is to provide optimal reliability that meets the business need for a company (Smith and Mobley 3). When choosing a career as an industrial maintenance technician, there are specific qualifications a person must meet before they go into the field. After taking a look at those certain qualifications myself, I have decided to continue on my path towards being an industrial maintenance technician. An industrial maintenance technician is a worker who maintains and repairs factory equipment and other industrial machinery. Some duties of an industrial maintenance technician can include cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting parts of equipment and machinery. Employment for maintenance workers is projected to grow 16 percent from 2014 to 2024, which is much faster than the average for all jobs and occupations. Employment of industrial machinery mechanics alone is projected to grow 18 percent from 2014 to 2024. This being one of the fields that employees can be a part of as an industrial maintenance technician, it adds tremendously to the job possibilities of the future. As technology becomes more advanced and more common, there will be plenty of job openings for companies that need people to come in and take care of their equipment and machinery (United States pars. 43-46) The annual pay for being an industrial maintenance technician is also good. In May 2015 the median salary for an industrial maintenance technician was $48,410. The lowest 10 percent of workers in the same field had a salary of $30,670 or less. The highest 10 percent of workers in the field had a salary of $74,090 or higher. Most employees are also employed full-time during regular business hours from Monday to Friday.
