The ultimate goal of maintenance is to provide optimal reliability that meets the business need for a company (Smith and Mobley 3). When choosing a career as an industrial maintenance technician, there are specific qualifications a person must meet before they go into the field. After taking a look at those certain qualifications myself, I have decided to continue on my path towards being an industrial maintenance technician. An industrial maintenance technician is a worker who maintains and repairs factory equipment and other industrial machinery. Employment for maintenance workers is projected to grow 16 percent from 2014 to 2024, which is much faster than the average for all jobs and occupations. Employment of industrial machinery mechanics alone is projected to grow 18 percent from 2014 to 2024. This being one of the fields that employees can be a part of as an industrial maintenance technician, it adds tremendously to the job possibilities of the future. As technology becomes more advanced and more common, there will be plenty of job openings for companies that need people to come in and take care of their equipment and machinery (United States pars. 43-46) The annual pay for being an industrial maintenance technician is also good. In May 2015 the median salary for an industrial maintenance technician was $48,410. The lowest 10 percent of workers in the same field had a salary of $30,670 or less. The highest 10 percent of workers in the field had a salary of $74,090 or higher. Most employees are also employed full-time during regular business hours from Monday to Friday. Ever since I could go with my dad in the tractors and equipment on the ranch, I knew I wanted to be a part of its operation. I have always been fascinated with the operations of diesel engine and much of a valuable asset they are to our world today. I helped out on the ranch whenever I could driving equipment. In the summer time it was my job to operate the swather. I really enjoyed operating it as much as I enjoyed fixing it when it broke down. When it came time to go to college the decision for a major was pretty clear. This is my second year in college in the diesel program and I really enjoy it. I have learned a lot about diesels and the field and this is what I want to do.

When we talk about aviation maintenance, we speak of repairs, alterations and the act of preserving an aircraft in its original airworthy condition. An airworthiness certificate is given to an aircraft after countless hours of design, research and testing. And in order to keep this certificate valid; an aircraft must be maintained in accordance with a certain specification. These specifications are brought to us by the Federal Aviation Administration. The Federal Aviation Regulation part that spells out these rules is found in part 43. These acts are performed to prevent harm to pilots, passengers, and even innocent bystander that may become involved in an incident due to improper maintenance. As maintenance managers, we must understand these implications that must be followed, so that we may ensure that our facility is performing to the standards set upon us by the FAA. The Federal Aviation Act of 1958 allowed for the regulation of air commerce in such manner as to best promote its development and safety. This brought about a rulemaking process to insure that all aspects of aviation could be regulated in a way as to provide maximum safety to all. This was the initial birth of 14 CFR 43, or Part 43 of the FAR's which is ironically titled Maintenance, Preventive Maintenance, Rebuilding, and Alteration (Federal Aviation Regulations [FAR], VII, 1997). This part has been primarily written for individuals or repair facilities that may be performing some sort of maintenance, preventive maintenance, rebuilding and or alterations. It refers to a number of qualified individuals that include holders of mechanic, repairman, air carrier, or even a pilot's certificate, that may perform an array of the procedures listed in this part.
