The machine that I chose to write about is an inclined plane more specifically a stretcher. An inclined plane is to help you lift heavy items. It is a very simple machine. We use inclined planes to lift our patients on a stretcher. We do not use incline plane that much in our CTE. We often lift heavy items recently we carried people on stretchers so I thought of inclined plane because that helps us lift our patients. We must lift our patient on all sides so that they can be safe and secure. If we did not use a stretcher to lift up our patients the force would be unimagenly too diffucult for us to handle. The Trebuchet was a devastating siege weapon that was used all across the world in the Middle Ages. The trebuchet was a highly destructive siege engine that caused the fall of several castles and thousands of soldiers of all various armies. In this essay I will be talking about the materials used to construct this siege engine, the countries and empires in which this siege weapon was used and the types of people that used this device.
The trebuchet was capable of taking down castle walls, fortresses, and entire cities. They were used as an ancient war engine in the early 300 B.C. in Ancient China. The trebuchet reached Europe in the Middle Ages, in the year 500 A.D. It was originally primarily used by the French, and were temporarily used as a power source. It will later be used as a weapon, introduced to England during the Siege of Dover in the year 1216. The trebuchet was used to take down the Dover castle's walls in this Siege.
The word trebuchet originated in France, but contrary to the name, the early siege weapon actually originated in China. The original trebuchet was made in 300BC. The trebuchet was made as a way to attack over enemy walls or fire at large groups of enemies running at the user. The Chinese had a design in which good ol’ fashion man power was used instead of a counter weight. There weren't very many advancements in the Chinese trebuchet besides the use of different woods. This trebuchet tended to be the least accurate out of all of the other models. This model is known as the traction trebuchet.
The patient was a 92-year-old man coming in for a left shoulder x-ray after falling on an outstretched hand. By: Daphne Scott I do think that it's important that students can still learn how to do geometry even in the old fashioned way. Even though a computer will automate a lot of the calculations and constructions for you, you still need to understand the geometric principles at work in order to use them. I chose the Da Vinci Surgical system as my topic because I am interested into going to physical therapy or into the orthopedics field after undergrad. Surgical equipment is highly important due to the hundreds of accidents that happen and also the high percentage of diseases. As these incidents occur it is important to consider the safety of the patient when it comes to cutting into their bodies. With the invention of the Da Vinci Surgical system it helped with vision and different viewpoints of the patient’s body and also improves precision. It is important to have a machine or tool for more than one type of surgery, one to use on patients with different injuries or diseases. Overall, this surgical system helps improve and help further research how precise and how in control a surgeon can be.
There are two different types of robots that can be used in surgeries, which are passive and active. According to Gerhardus, “ A physician controls a passive robot” (245). Physicians use passive robots to help them be more precise, accurate, and safer when performing a surgery. Gerhardus states that a passive robot is mainly used to perform cardiac surgery (245). The use of robot-assisted surgery has advantages and disadvantages. Surgeons, who are willing to use robots during surgery, will improve their patient’s quality of care, and they will cause the amount of pain the patient experience to reduce, and the patient’s recovery will be much quicker (Gerhardus 245). For instance, a patient whose surgery was performed using a robotic system will recover in about a week, however; another patient who had the same surgery, but the surgeon did not use the robotic system will recover in about two weeks or sometimes even longer. Also, according to Gerhardus, “Robot-assisted surgery reduces the rate of occurrence of bacterial infections and blood transfusions” (250). According to Gerhardus the disadvantage of using robots to help perform surgery is that each medical facility will have to spend a large amount of money to make sure that the workers are educated and trained to use this type of technology, when performing a surgery (249).
