Whether people like it or not, uniforms are here to stay in modern society. They are seen everywhere, from schools to policemen. Uniforms are a requirement for life. In professional work settings and careers they are expected. On this basis, why wouldn't they be used in a school setting? School uniforms prepares children for their futures. Parents and elders are filled with pride when they see the future generations in clothing that highlights their intelligence. Any issues with them, such as expense, expression, and their actual classroom effects, are easily solved. More schools should require uniforms. As it is, the trend is growing with one in five schools wearing uniforms (“Are School...”).
To say school uniforms are expensive is an almost ridiculous claim. Clothing in general is expensive and professional dress (like oxford shirts and slacks) can be worn to many social functions. Rather than spending hundreds of dollars on designer clothing like Gucci, Rayband, or Hollister (“School Uniforms...”), parents can find two sets of uniforms for their children for around $70. When an average pair of jeans is already $50 on sale, this can make a big difference in the pockets of low-income families. This social barriers in regular public schools is also being addressed. Teachers in these schools are often taught to not compliment clothing choices of children, this can cause children to examine their clothing closer. If this happens, the self-esteem of some students may drop tremendously if they cannot afford clothing like their peers. In uniformed schools this is reduced as students feel welcome in their environment. The debate over school uniforms seems to be one that will be divided for a long time. This should not be, as school uniforms show so many benefits and can outweigh the disadvantages.

Why has uniformity in dress became a positive instead of a negative in society? Argument after argument, the issue of school uniforms is a debate people will always have a difference of opinion on. Many people disagree that school uniforms should exist and many others agree. School uniforms have several beneficial factors. For example, wearing uniforms in schools can promote a sense of equality and promote safety belonging among students. School uniforms not only time savers for school staff, but students and parents as well.
In society today, school-age children are under tremendous pressure to fit in with their peers and still perform well academically. I believe that school uniforms at pre-K through high school levels are an excellent way to help children succeed not only in school, but to prepare them for college and the “real world.” Three reasons why I believe school uniforms should be used in all schools is first, they are economic, next, they reduce distractions and finally, they help with social equality. To begin, school uniforms are economic. When schools have a uniform policy, it makes it easier on the children and parents.
School uniforms have become an essential part of schooling in many parts of the world. According to the article “Uniforms for Learning” it mentions that “In Britain, for example, 98% of parents of primary and secondary school students surveyed in 2007 by the Department of Education said that their schools required them.” While in other countries the idea of school uniforms is being adapted, the United States is slowly trailing behind. Many schools that regulate the dress code of school uniforms say that it helps with the feeling of safety for the students and it creates a learning environment that allows students to focus on their studies. In the United States there has been research and studies that contributes to the analysis that shows the benefits of school uniforms. In one article it stated that “In 1996, only 3% of public schools in the country required students to wear them. By 2000, this figure had risen to 12% and by 2010 to 19%” (“Uniforms”). These results show that every year the United States is slowly adapting to the idea of school uniforms into our education system. Although many researches have positive results, there are still some short-comings (Viardero). With school uniforms, students lose the freedom to express their individuality (“Student”). Studies show both the benefits and no change effects of school uniforms, and this can be inconsistent to say that school uniforms have helped entirely. A while back, researchers studied that the reason certain school require students to wear school uniforms is because they feel that it will help stop other students from bulling one another, just because they don’t have on high priced shoes or clothing it shouldn 't stop them from doing what they do best. Nowadays, though, this is a giant concern among students, parents, and school board officials. Many arguments have been made over the matter saying uniforms should be required and enforced in schools. School uniforms are a boiling conversation point these days. There are so many well-built points of view about what route parents, students, and superintendents wish to go in. It has been disputed that school uniforms have the potential to make a school safer, that uniforms reduce harassment or self-esteem issues, and that uniforms return the focus to the students' learning. I disagree. I, in fact think that school uniforms do not help make our schools a more secure place, I think that they do not revisit the center of attention to student's education - they just shifted where the attention was previous, and that they won’t help cut down on harassment or self- esteem issues in school.
School uniforms are affecting the amount of money spent on clothing in a negative way. Many people think parents/guardians are saving money, but really, they are just spending more money. If one were to think about it, school uniforms can’t be worn outside of school. Why would someone want to spend $300 on school uniforms, and then have to spend $200 on clothes worn outside of school?

Uniforms in public schools are becoming accepted throughout the world. The public school systems would benefit significantly if this policy were to be accepted. Wearing uniforms in public schools result in positive effects.
School Uniforms are a logical choice for the public school venue. Uniforms prevent students from a lower income background to be singled out for poorly made or cheap clothing, prevents use of gang colors, allows for certain safety measures, and allows teachers to form impressions of students based on actions and work rather than dress code choices.

My team is definitely in favour of schools having their students wear school uniforms. My teammates and I will demonstrate to you that the benefits brought by the wearing of school uniforms far outweigh any perceived disadvantages.
