The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the most famous museum that has thousands of collections of artworks from all over the world. One day we visited Asian art galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and our mission was to pick two kinds of objections to compare each other. According my research, I find out the ceramic Cup with Bamboo was more influential than the painting Grasses and Moon in the society. Each object has its own attractive elements. One work is normally different with other, but all of them are created with purpose, it always influence or change world of human’ art.
The ceramics Cup with Bamboo was created during Qing dynasty (1644-1911), the emperor Yongzheng period(1723-35) in China. In the the Ceramics Cup with Bamboo, I can understand the ceramic technology was very popular and prosperous on that time. The most famous factory was Jingdezhen ware. The ceramic Cup with Bamboo was created there, and painted with in enamels over transparent glaze. As what I said, in the Cup with Bamboo, I can see the level of ceramic technology, it paints very fine and realistic with black color. The painting of the ceramic Cup with Bamboo is simple, you can see nothing expect bamboo. Its height is 1 3/4 inches and diameter 3 3/4 inches, so it is a very small object, it seems it was used to hold wine.
The another object, the painting Grasses and Moon was created by Tani Buncho(1763-1840) during Edo period (1615-1868), Grasses and Moon is a hanging scroll done with ink on silk. The painting shows a night scene with full moon, you can see there is a large circular moon floating in the sky on the left top of painting. The moon is painted differently from the reeds and appear on the right...

...d Moon, it doesn’t have huge influential for people’s life, but it also teaches or shows somethings for artists and historiographers. Most of time, artists can learn something from other artists works, and the poems and art works always contain something about authors’ situation. So they can see and understand author’s situation and his level of painting techniques in the painting Grasses and Moon.
Each object is created with its own purpose, whatever they are. From this trip, I was taught about the purpose and history about each object by prof. Ikuyo Nakagawa. I seem each object has similarity, some have similarity on history, some have similarity on technology, some have similarity on their influence of society. The ceramic Cup with Bamboo was more influential than the printing Grasses and Moon in the society, but they both got influence for people.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has one of the finest Asian art collections that has enlightened and strengthened my understanding in my personal art experience. The Museum itself is an artistic architectural structure that graces the entire block on 82nd Street in Manhattan. Entering inside, I sensed myself going back into an era, into a past where people traded ideas and learned from each other. It is a past, where I still find their works of yesteryears vividly within my grasp, to be remembered and shared as if their reflections of works were cast for the modern devoted learner.
This Starry night painting was created on a medium sized canvas, being 2′ 5″ x 3′ 0″. This oil painting is dominated by a moon and a star-filled night sky. This part of the artwork takes up three-quarters of the picture and appears turbulent, even distressed, with intense swirling patterns that seem to roll across the surface like waves. It is filled with bright orbs, including the crescent moon to the far right, and Venus, the morning star, to the left of center—surrounded by many circles of bright white and yellow light.
With works in every known medium, from every part of the world, throughout all points in history, exploring the vast collection of the Museum of Modern Art was an overwhelming experience. The objects in the Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts are an important historical collection, reflecting the development of a number of art forms in Western Europe. The department's holdings covered sculpture in many sizes, woodwork and furniture, ceramics and glass, jewelry, and tapestries. The gallery attracted my appreciation of the realistic qualities of the human body often portrayed in sculpture.
Despite the artistic beauty of the two vases, both were made for more than just decoration. The vase depicting Artemis is what was called a Bell Krater and was used for mixing the popular Greek drink of water and wine. The other, called a Lekythos was used to pour liquids during elaborate burial ceremonies to honor the wealthy. Another main function of pottery in many cases is to tell a story, which is exactly what Artemis Slaying Actaeon intends. The vase depicts the goddess of the hunt, Artemis, slaying a hunter Actaeon, whom accidentally intruded on her bathing while on a hunt. On the other hand, Woman and Maid is intended as a remembrance of a wealthy woman, and depicts an offering of a chest of valuables from a slave girl to the deceased.
different works of art influence one another. The article helps us see how all art is connected,
On the Warka Vase shown on register 4 naked men carry three types of pottery and at least three of these pottery pieces hold some objects, this implies that all three types of pottery are holding some object or objects, since the men are taking the pottery to the same location. One of these pottery pieces appears to be a piece made to pour, and hold, liquids. This pouring vessel is again seen in an image on another vase (20), this vase seem t...
My friends, after traveling through the Asian continent and Japan, I continued on to the Americas. The art in the Americas has three regions, North America, Central America, and South America. Each region has a very distinct aspect to their forms of art. All cultures have some kind of art. Being curious about art, I have collected samples from five different areas. The following works of art are very different from European art, but there are still some similarities. The similarities of the human spirit are evident in the following images.
The St. Louis Art Museum is one of the United States most renowned art museums that is located in our very own St. Louis. It has over 30,000 pieces of exquisite art that I had the privilege to witness. While there, I mainly examined the art pieces that were modern art, since that is of what I have a good working knowledge. There is a wide range of art that I also got to witness including the sculptures and the museum itself. In the past year, they have recently installed a new sector of their establishment that has done nothing less than enhance the entire museum’s overall beauty. The St. Louis Art Museum, there are many beautiful works, but there were three special projects that caught my eye while I was there. The Contemporary art periods, Modern art periods, the American art periods, and the museum itself.
This work is represented with ink and color on paper which is a hanging scroll, with scale of 114.0 cm * 39.1cm. When first seeing this painting, most of its was filled with a jagged overhanging cliff, and Ren Yu used ink to represent it in a ink wash painting feeling plus clear outline of its shape. Therefore, he also used another practice in traditional Chinese arts, Gongbi, to represent the water at the bottom of this work and some plants. Other than black, white, gray, there are only two colors in the picture: use green to represent plants, and use orange-red to fill the color of the cloth on the person. By the strong contradiction of color, it is easy to catch people’s attention on the figure, which is on the right-bottom of this work. He is in red, relaxed clothes, sitting on the ground of a cave,
One pleasant afternoon, my classmates and I decided to visit the Houston Museum of Fine Arts to begin on our museum assignment in world literature class. According to Houston Museum of Fine Art’s staff, MFAH considers as one of the largest museums in the nation and it contains many variety forms of art with more than several thousand years of unique history. Also, I have never been in a museum in a very long time especially as big as MFAH, and my experience about the museum was unique and pleasant. Although I have observed many great types and forms of art in the museum, there were few that interested me the most.
Before analysing selected art works in more detail it will be worth introducing a few different definitions and hypothesis of aesthetics in art based on theories of well-known critical thinkers.
Many in the modern world seem to take great pride in the rapid pace which life holds for most of us. It is as if we might squeeze a few more precious moments of life's experience for ourselves if we move a bit faster. In reality, we rob ourselves of the enjoyment of the slow consideration of the phenomena we experience everyday. Art is something static which we might use to slow us in our perception of our world. It is not required that art be something static in motion but in thought. It is not something to be considered with only fleeting attention. A single painting could mean millions of different things to different people. It is the value of possibility and of perception that is so important. The Weatherspoon Art Museum at UNCG is a perfect example of the importance of this concept.
Man has always found pleasure in expressing himself by creating art. Through the centuries, man’s art has left behind clues and insight that enables the generations of today to understand their ancestors. In particular, historians and artist alike can see what certain Asian sculptures reflect of the culture and religious beliefs of Hinduism and Buddhism. Hinduism is the parent religion to Buddhism; much like Judaism is to Christianity. Despite Buddhism and Hinduism sharing similar philosophies and various idealisms, their respective sculptures also show their differences. There are two important characteristic of the sculptures of these religions. The first is motion versus rest, and second the subject matter. It is these two types of characteristics historians and artist can help use to decipher Hindu and Buddhist sculptures.
Modern art runs a very important role in man’s life throughout history, because it that does not only give us inspiration but also the freedom to express ourselves through the use of different mediums.
Thus, it seems, the processes of appreciation and evaluation which lead to the conclusion that an object, whether a work of art or otherwise, is beautiful, are the same in all cases, and the paradigm for those processes must be that which is furnished by the appreciation and estimation of a natural beauty free of all intervention by concepts, whether the concept of art or any more specific concept.
