What is WED?

WED stands for “World Environment Day” is a day of encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. It is run by UNEP “United Nations Environment Program”. It is a day for people from all sects of life to come together in order to ensure a brighter outlook for themselves and their planet Earth. It was first started in 1972 by United Nations General Assembly and now it has become a global platform.

World Environment Day is celebrated by arranging different kinds of environmental activities being run by UNEP, and other organizations and by people around the world. A variety of activities are planned for this grand celebration. Media, political leaders and celebrities also take part in this celebration to cover news and post Happy Environment Day messages. On WED, some national and international activities are also organized which include street rallies, parades, garbage recycling, trees plantation etc. People of all age actively participate in this ceremony in order to save earth in original form as gifted by Nature. Now in this modern era, youth are hugely taking part in this event by various activities such as clean-up campaigns, art exhibitions, motivating people for tree planting, film festivals, community events, essay writing, poster competitions, best environment day slogans and lot more.
