Stoichiometry is a chemical branch that studies amounts of substances that are involved in reactions. Stoichiometry will help you to find out how much of the mixture you will need, or how much you started with. The calculations of a stoichiometry problem depends on a balanced chemical equations. The factors of the balanced equations signifies the molar ratio (the number of moles of each reactant needed to form a certain numbers of moles of each product) of the reactants and products taking part in the reaction. From the atomic and molecular point of view the stoichiometry in a chemical reaction is very simple. For example, one mole of oxygen reacts with two moles of hydrogen, 2 H2 + O2 -> 2 H2O Or one mole of hydrogen reacts with half a mole of oxygen, H2 + ½ O2 -> H2O. Stoichiometry is very used in our daily life, for example cooking. Just imagine that you really want cookies, but you are almost out of sugar, this is where stoichiometry pops in, you have to figure out how much of the other ingredients you will need compared to the amount of sugar that you have. Besides the stoichiometry use in our daily life we also use it in serious life aspects. Let’s just take the example of airbags. …show more content…
The journey from that idea and the airbags that we have now has been very long. Today, airbags are a necessary in every car and are designed to act as an extra safety device aside of seat belts. But a lot of people are looking quite sceptical at the air bag safety, because there was a lot of accidents where the airbag didn’t react or it did react, but it didn’t help but killed the driver or the passenger. Since 1991 there was 238 counted just because of air
... while weighing the reactants would try and avoid letting the reagents get in contact with apparatus that may not be necessary so as to avoid loss of some the substance and this way the exact mass would be achieved.
The seat belt or safety belt is a safety harness designed to secure the occupant of a vehicle against harmful movement that may result from a collision or a sudden stop. As part of an overall automobile passive safety system, seat belts are intended to reduce injuries by stopping the wearer from hitting the hard interior of the vehicle, or other passengers, when in the correct position for the airbag to deploy it prevents the driver and passengers from being thrown from the vehicle. Seat belts absorb the energy of the impact by being designed to stretch during any sudden deceleration, so that there is less speed differential between the passenger's body and their vehicle interior, and also to spread the loading of impact on the passenger’s
Did you know that seat belts save over 13,000 lives each year, according to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration). In an accident seat belts are usually the difference between life or death. The NHTSA estimates that over 7,000 lives could be saved if the victims had used their seat belts. There are also many other safety features of a car, like the airbags, zones, and even padded dashboards. Car safety is very important in our everyday lives, and there needs to be more awareness about the effects of not being safe in a car.
The Gravimetric Stoichiometry lab was a two-week lab in which we tested one of the fundamental laws of chemistry: the Law of Conservation of Mass. The law states that in chemical reactions, when you start with a set amount of reactant, the product should theoretically have the same mass. This can be hard sometimes because in certain reactions, gases are released and it’s hard to measure the mass of a gas. Some common gases released in chemical reactions include hydrogen, carbon dioxide, oxygen and water vapor. One of the best methods for determining mass in chemistry is gravimetric analysis (Lab Handout).
This padding system is more reliable than the an airbag system because an airbag system requires a certain threshold to be surpassed prior to being deployed (Breed, 1991). This padding, is assembled and ready prevent the patient as soon as the impact from another vehicle occurs. Though this device is primarily for the lateral portions of the car interior, the cushion device still impedes some of the force on the driver or passenger during a “T-bone” type of accidents that frequently occur on
Nowadays, along with the development and increase of economical level, the automobile has become an essential and important transport. Also, it leads to another problem: traffic accident. Over the last century, there were more crashes in U.S than the number of the wars that Americans have been through. Therefore, people started to notice that they need the automobile safety to protect themselves. Over the last 100 years, the automobile safety has changed a lot to give out the best protection that we’re using today. Below are 3 major features: safety glass, air bag and seat belt.
Airbags have been around for a long while. They have a fascinating history in production, statistical information and safety measures. Various theories have been told about them in the sense of them being made because of different reasons. People use them on a daily basis and they are now very treasured. Airbags are a great life saver.
In 1966, President Johnson signed the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety act. This act required the government to come up with new safety standards for motor vehicles. Four years or so later, in the 1970s, General Motors and Ford placed new airbags in small fleet cars (Moore). The concept of this new device was to totally inflate stopping the rapid forward motion of a person not wearing a seat belt before they would hit the dashboard or be thrown from a car during a crash. The airbags soon proved to be helpful, but in some cases they were still very dangerous (The Truth). Airbags, to me, are an important part of car safety; they saved my relatives lives. But, complications still arise from the force of an airbag deploying when a car is hit at a low speed. And the fact that some motor companies only test airbags on large dummies resembling males is upsetting because not everyone is the same size. The companies also waited five months before acknowledging that there were safety problems with the airbags.
Seat belt usage is a struggling problem today through out the United States. It is also lower then any other industrialized nation in the world. The best way to prevent a death in a motor vehicle accident is to wear a seat belt. Everybody has their opinions on safety belts and the laws that go with them, but until they prove them harmful, people recommend for occupants to wear it while in a vehicle. Still today people want it to be a national law for people to buckle up. Estimations from people all over the country prove that seat belts really help save lives. But also some safety belts have failed and have cause people to get trapped in the car. For instance, if someone happens to run off a bridge and go into the water, they would have to
In a globalized world, the use of seat belts is the best way to provide more protection to driver and passengers other than the use of air bags.
In chemistry, Colorimetry is used a lot. They use it for things such as colour painting, food manufacturing, and textiles. Colorimetry can also be used to measure light. The amount of light absorbed is called and also is measured as the absorbance which is a use of the coloured solute concentration. To use a colorimeter, different kinds of solutions have to be made, this includes a regulator or orientation of identified concentration.
The history of chemistry dates back to the time of ancient history to now. Ancient civilizations used technologies that would eventually form the basis of the various branches of chemistry by 1000 BC. For example, they were extracting chemicals from plants to make medicines. The history of chemistry is intertwined with the history of thermodynamics. Chemistry is very important to our world today. Without it, we wouldn’t be near as advanced as we are. Let’s take scientists for example. The scientists at St. Jude children’s research hospital; everyday they are working to find the cure to various types of cancer by mixing different chemicals and making various compounds to somehow help all the children with the big C word today. Chemistry plays a big role in things we would never think of.
It is a type of analytical technique. It measures the mass to charge ratio of charged particles, it is used to determine masses of particles. It is used to determine the elemental composition of a sample. we can say how it helps in castings, by using this technique how much percentage of raw materials needed to prepare particular alloy castings.
...hat it could also be used to show measurements, be used in science, and that it could be used to ride in things such as hot air balloons. It could be used to find measurements because you could be trying to fill up the balloon just to see how tall or how wide it can get, and then measure it. It could also be used in science for that reason, and if you were testing the acidity in something, and having it fill up with something other than air or helium.
This science is directly associated with chemistry through different concepts and applications. In order to be successful this division of science, a biochemist needs to have a strong understanding of atomic structure in various molecules and elements. They need to be able to understand the structure of the diverse molecules that they are working with and should be able to predict the outcome of certain chemical reactions. Furthermore, biochemists should be just as aware of certain molecules and substances that would not react well together. Ultimately, one of the biggest factors in biochemistry is being able to balance the molecules of the substance that is being created. However, biochemists not only need to be sure that the substance they are creating is balanced, but the substance created balances when combined with living organisms. If the substance created reacts poorly with the chemicals within a living organism, the outcome could very dangerous. Since there are important concepts a biochemist needs to understand, there are some specific chemistry concepts that they must apply. A basic concept they must know, as previously stated, is stoichiometry. Stoichiometry is vital to biochemists because they need to know how to balance certain substances to achieve the reaction they want. Since they are also working on the molecular
