Sports, one of the things in life that people work hardest for. That work can show a lot about a person and their character. I had the opportunity to prove my character in hockey last year. For me the feeling of your lungs screaming for more air and your legs giving out drove me. It helped me work towards my goal, and that goal was to be the starting goalie on my team. After months of giving everything I had, to hear my coach tell me that I was the starting goalie made me feel like a kid in a candy shop. It was a long road to get there and took a lot of work. The day I got to the first practice was crazy. I had never felt such a rush in my life. From my body shaking from nerves to my sweaty palms from my gloves, it was amazing. I wasn’t the strongest kid on the block, if you know what I mean. I looked like a noodle and couldn’t even squat 170 pounds more than 5 times. The people I was living with said that I should start going to the gym with them to get stronger and that would help my performance. So every day we would go to the gym to workout from seven am to two pm we would stay at the gym and do our online school in between workouts. The people I lived with also practiced a martial art called Ju Jitsu. They told me I should try and it looked intriguing. I decided to give it a try. Not expecting much of it, I just kind of did it to make them happy. Boy was I wrong! It was so much fun that I became addicted to it. I hated going to the gym until I started to do Ju Jitsu. The rush Ju Jitsu gave me made me want to go to the gym everyday. As for the workout they stressed legs and core workouts to improve my speed and agility as a goalie.I started to see the improvement on ice and that was an “aha” moment for me.
